I'm interested and researching in a career in the transportation industry. I spent 8 years (96 to 04) in the Air Force where one of my duties was driving T/T. For the past 12 years I have been a police officer. I also continue to serve in the Air Force Reserve so ill be taking advantage of the military waiver to obtain my CDL

Maverick orientation/military waiver
I have applied and gotten everything approved through Maverick pending me getting my CDL. I'm going to get the CDL through the military waiver program. Other than the obvious disadvantages of me not attending a CDL school what are your thoughts on taking this route.

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a career change and I think I'm gonna take a shot at trucking. First off let me say this is not a knee jerk decision. I've been researching this for a few months now. To give you a little of my background , I was active duty military from 96 to 04. I left the military to be a police officer. I've been a police officer for the last 12 years. I'm also currently in the reserves to finish out my military time. Part of my duties in the military is driving T/T. Although I don't have OTR experience I'm not totally blind to driving trucks. I'm going to get my CDL using the military waiver. I still have to go and take the written test, which I plan on doing next week. I want to drive flatbed because that's what I'm used to in the military. I've applied to a couple of companies (Roehl and Maverick) and plan to apply to TMC. They all seem to be "military friendly". What are your thoughts on these three companies for a beginner? Living in Alabama would one company out weigh the others. Any input would be appreciated.

TMC
I feel your pain. I've got my CDL permit and getting my CDL through the military waiver program. Not a CDL school. I've been approved through Maverick pending me getting my CDL. Driving in the military is a whole different ballgame and I'm a little nervous as well. I'm talking to Roehl also. I asked if I could go through their get you CDL program even though I will have my CDL just for the extra training. They said that would be fine. There are plenty of programs out there. You just need to find the one that'll best fit you situation. Good Luck.
