Getting a cdl

Hello I'm starting school for my CDL and I was wondering do I have to do the DOT physical before my permit? My school offers free CDL permit but the class starts Feb.24 and my appointment for my DOT physical is on march 1st. Can I still attend the class?

Getting your cdl questions

Should i do everything on yhe high road material or is it better to learn the stuff just for te permit

CDL Permit? Easy if you utilize the High Road Training on this site.

DOT Physical? Standard physical exam. Eyes, Ears, Pee, General physical condition. If you are generally healthy, walk in the park.

As for your last question........ Don't bring your neighbors pee. If you have not been clean for at least six months, put off school. One failed pre employment drug test will pretty much ruin your chances of EVER driving a CMV.

I hope that helps!

Getting your cdl questions

Thank you and i ask cause of stage frieght. It has always been a problem with me so i wanted to try preparing myself for everything i have to do so i can get my permit and go to school its my dream

Ditto on what Tractor Man said.

I recently got my permit and the High Road Training here was awesome and helped tremendously. I studied in class as well and listened, but I already knew most of what I needed to know from the training here.

I was not watched during my drug test, but it didn't really matter to me so much whether they did or not. It would not have been my all time favorite thing, but I want this enough to do what I have to do. Even if it makes me uncomfortable.

I know some people ask because they are nervous about someone watching and some people ask because they are doing something wrong. If you have drugs in your system or if you plan to continue using any, just don't. I was recently picked for a random while in school. We were told that we are considered "employees" and subject to DOT regulations while in school. So drug tests can happen and daily logs are a must. So just don't do anything that may end up causing you to jeopardize your career.

The physical was pretty basic. If you're generally healthy, shouldn't be a big deal.

Good luck to you!

I got 2 misdeamenors can I drive truck

No I do not have anything else on my record but those and ytes I know it will be a label but I can try my best and see if someone will take me I regret what I did but its something I gotta dealk with and try

If the last one was 2010 - and you have completed all sentence/probation/court requirements more than 5 years ago - you "should be OK".

Do you have any other ARRESTS? As in - busted but dropped, dismissed, etc.?

You know that all these paraphernalia charges are going to label you as a DRUGGIE?

Best you can do is to START APPLYING. DO DISCLOSE EVERYTHING THAT IS REQUESTED.

Some will say "5 years or less" and disclose everything 5 years or less. If it doesn't state a TIME FRAME - DISCLOSE EVERYTHING.

Whatever company you decide to go with I'd suggest that you co-drive your first few months

Co-drive? Do you mean team? Or are you referring to the road training phase? Most every company requires supervised road training. If that's what you are recommending, yes I agree.

But if you are recommending teaming,...that's a highly personal preference and not required.

Is it hard to learn and I'm trying to decide on a company does anyone know anything about swift or Schneider national I hear they are good companies but what is the home time likje?

Kyle, they will teach you to drive a multi-range manual transmission. It's preferred that you have never driven using a stick in a car. Since the two are remarkably different it's easier to teach someone without manual shifting experience how-to shift a large truck.

What other questions do you have???
