CB Question for you techies out there
As an amateur radio operator of over 40 years, I can tell you the length of the antenna doesn't matter at all unless you're transmitting. You could stick a metal coat-hanger there and it would still receive. If you're hearing nothing (not even static), it's more likely the coax has been damaged in some way, or at least the connector where it attaches to the antenna. Even if the antennas are of different brands, it's unlikely that they'd cause much in the way of a problem.

Prime PSD Springfield MO 02/20/17
had a nice chat with the girl up at the counter about good places to eat and all that in the area...
If she didn't mention it, one of the best (and most famous) places to eat around there is Lambert's "Home of the throwed roll". It's just south of Springfield on the way to Branson.

Rick last I checked all 27 satellites were property of the u.s government, no other county had gps satellites up, last I checked.
There are actually 32 satellites in the GPS constellation. As of today (7 Feb 17), all 32 were in operation, except for 3 that were down for short periods of time for scheduled maintenance. http://tycho.usno.navy.mil/gpscurr.html
In addition, the Russians have a similar system called Glonass. Most newer smartphones, as well as stand alone GPS devices have Glonass chips in them, improving the overall user accuracy.

Geocaching, something to do when not driving
Another option is munzee. A game somewhat similar to geocaching, but more points based. Go to www.munzee.com to check it out.

Do any of you go geocaching?
Another geolocation game that many enjoy is called Munzee. It's basically finding and scanning QR codes placed for the purpose of increasing one's point totals in the game. Although it doesn't require as much walking as geocaching, and much of it is of the virtual variety, my wife and I like it due to the competitive nature of the points structure. It also has a great social component as munzee events are popping up all over the place. Go to www.munzee.com for more information and to sign up.
