Been driving around the yard with the trainer the past 2 days. Doing pretty good on upshift; downshifting was trickier but I am getting it. Wow, HEAVY clutch! Getting the feel of the straight line backing. Small adjustments are best. Studying the inspection part at home then practicing on the rig. So far doing OK.

Hi all-
First, the sample tests you have are AWESOME. I used them and now have my A permit with doubles, tanker, airbrake. My message to others just starting out is to use them. And if you can't visualize what the regs are talking about, look up the subject on youtube. Very helpful for the airbrakes testing and for me the doubles/triples hookup protocol.
I'm in NorCal, and will be receiving OJT (On the job training) with Valley Farm Transport in Dixon CA. The obligation is to haul tomatoes during the 4-month season (paid), and then I'm all good. Season runs late June-Nov. It's ag, so HOS regs are relaxed to accommodate the harvest. Should be a grinder, but it's only 4 months. I plan to take it steady, rest and hydrate, and follow the rules of the road. They are cool about me taking Sundays off for Church.
I start on Monday. So stoked. Been wanting to drive a truck for a long time. I've gotten to mid life and heck, I'm running out of time to do the things I always wanted to do since being a kid. So glad your website was here for me to get all the info. I'll keep you all posted on how it goes.

Just passed my CDL-A permit test with combo, air brakes, doubles, and tanker endorsements. I used the training material and practice tests found in Trucking Truth. They are GREAT. Also, where I just couldn't visualize what was going on, especially with the trailer hookups, I used youtube videos.
I'm going to be training with a local farm transport company. Once I pass my drive test, I'll be hauling rice and tomatoes through October. They are training me, and I commit to one full season with them. Then, who knows. They have limited offseason work, so we'll see once I get there.
I'm excited as all the other noobs. Like a kid on Christmas morning.
See you out on the road soon, Ladies.

Anyone go into Trucking from career burnout?
Oh yeah. 20 years in insurance repair on homes and commercial structures. Way burnt. Crispy fried. I studied and used the tests on this website, got my permit, got on with a local agricultural hauler, they trained me on the truck and trailers in return for working rice and tomato seasons with them this summer and fall. Passed and got my cdl-A (took me 3 times! Yowza!). Now I'm hauling rice in a sweet Kenworth T880 day cab, doubles. It is awesome. Good luck to you!
