Considering you live in Wilmington DE, and that's in the territory I cover, if you want you could ride with me for a short run to see first hand how this operation works. Let me know.
G-Town, I am interested on going with a short run with you. I would greatly appreciate it! Right now things are a bit hectic as I am transferring to a new sight with my current job, so you can keep me posted on your schedule between now and April 3 (when I start class for my CDL part time, while working full time), we can work something out. I am available this Sunday for sure. I don't see any way to private message anyone, but my email is dascott2485@gmail.com.

Well, looks like I will be starting at a private school (Smith and Solomon in New Castle, DE) on April 3rd. Studying my butt off as we speak to take the written before then. Will be trying to get every endorsement minus the School Bus and Passenger ones (for now anyways).

Healthier and cheaper alternatives for caffeine
While I am waiting to start my time in CDL school, I have been in security for 7 years, and have done my fair share of crazy hours and long shifts. Which means like most truckers, I have had to use something for the occasional pick me up. I see a lot of people that drink a lot of coffee, or energy drinks to get their energy levels up, but these options can be pricey or unhealthy. Here is a short list of some alternatives to help that are cheaper, healthier, can can be just as effective:
Apple - an apple is high in sugar and can provide a quick boost of energy if needed. V8 Energy - Has almost as much caffeine as a regular cup of 8 oz. coffee. Very easy down it quick as well. Amino Energy - My all time go to pick me up. By Optimum Nutrition, it is 20 dollars for 30 servings online, and comes in both power and chewable tablet form (a bit more expensive). 1 serving is two scoops, if this turns out being to strong for you, you can go down to one scoop.
The usual warning applies like any other energy drink. Don't become to dependent on them as the effects can weaken over time if your body gets to used to it. I also don't notice the same crash using these as you do with a Monster. Hope this helps!

Hey Todd, Roehl runs a dedicated fleet for Kraft right through DE (its all east coast). They have a manufacturing plant in Dover and a logistics warehouse in Hurlock MD..they could probably fit you right in. You'd be home for your reset at a minimum. Give them a call and see what the current hiring area is. Loads are picked up out of Winchester Va. with backhauls going into that area. Good company to start with. Good luck.
Thanks! I have looked into Roehl. They seem to have a ton of different schedules which is kind of nice. I was hoping they would be one of those listed from the driving school I am attending. I will post an updated list of options as soon as I am able to get a list from the school.

I have done plenty of research into trucking, and am looking forward to the challenges coming up. I am heading in Monday to set things up with a private school (Smith and Solomon). I will be asking for a list of current openings. I am hoping for something that will get me home on the weekends, and am considering a contract with Schneider for Wal-Marl (I think), that has you on the road Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (pays well apparently due to losing weekends). I was just curious if there are openings with companies that have similar home times, are there companies that are better then others for newer drivers that I should watch out for? (I live in Wilmington, DE and plan on staying here).

Thanks everyone. I got the answers I pretty much expected, just wanted to double check. Errol V, Thanks for the resources, I already have read the book, and am doing the study program as we speak. I am going in on Monday to get things set up with a private school (Smith and Solomon in New Castle, DE), and hopefully ask them for a list of the different openings they have currently. It will be interesting, I will be working full time Tuesday through Saturday, and doing classes on Sunday and Monday.

First a bit about myself since I am new here: I am currently working for a contract security company and am about to go to my 3rd site due to layoffs, and closings (I have not been with the company for even 2 full years, and each one has been a pay cut). I have had in interest in trucking but after doing some research, following forums, speaking with truckers as they come to our sites for inspections, and reading the Becoming a Truck Driver, I want to make the career change.
A question that I have has to do with driving day vs. night. I know there are factors such as appoint times, and when drop off sites are open, however I was wandering how lot of companies treat drivers her prefer to drive at night? Again, working security I am use to crazy hours, and I feel much better when doing a night shift then working up at the crack of dawn, so I would rather do the bulk of driving at night. Thanks for the help!

Eagle Transport
I was curious if anyone knew how the company Eagle Transport is? The recently sent a recruiter to the school I will be attending, and are looking to hire new drivers. According to the school they are offering home daily (days, nights, and weekends), HAZMAT deliveries, average pay of $1200-$1500 a week, and bonus pay for working nights and weekends. I just emailed there recruiter, but was curious if anyone has any experience with them. Thanks!
