Regrets? Not really. I am a what you see is what you get kind of person. Work hard, play hard. I love my family and I hate fakeness. You see a lot of this in the corporate world. I was sick of it. Now that I’ve been a Flatbedder for almost two years, it fits me. I like the physicality of the job. You work your ass off. I don’t mind the driving either. Being away from the kids has been hard, but I’m home almost every weekend right now. The money is fine. I’m pulling about $70K a year. It’s good.

Starting at Roehl: Yes, I did begin at Roehl through their Get Your CDL program. The training was ok, but I wasn’t impressed with the company once I was in. After completing my CDL, they hadn’t lined me up with a trainer for over 30 days. So I told them if they couldn’t get me in a truck with a trainer soon, I wouldn’t be able to stay. A whole month with no income was not going to work. They couldn’t line it up and I jumped ship and went to TMC. I had my doubts about this company, but I love it. They say what they mean and do what they say. You work hard and you are compensated well.

So, I’m not looking to leave but take the next step with the company. Specialized or Boats Division.

I haven’t been on here for a long while, but I have a decision to make and need help.

I’ve been with TMC for about a year and a half. I love it here. Now, I’m looking for a challenge and more money within the Company. Either in the Boat Division or the Specialized Division. I have a perfect safety record and have been approved to join either one. But, I don’t know enough to decide between the two.

My question is this: What are the pros and cons of each division an which can I make the most money in?

Obviously, drivers on either division WITHIN TMC, I’d love to hear from you. Thanks.

Micky, you need to use different titles so we can tell your posts apart. I thought you re-posted the Truth or Lies from 2 days ago.

You can do a search (top left search box) for TMC and Maverick. I believe some members did go with Maverick a while ago.

Micky, if you're considering Maverick Transportation and TMC Transport, include Roehl Transport (Flatbed Div.) in your research if you haven't already. I was looking at the same companies and decided on Roehl. I start with them Dec. 4th for Flatbed. I asked some questions on here, too, and also posted why I chose Roehl if you're interested. T-Minus 5 days to the first day of Orientation and CDL training at Roehl! This weekend is going to be crazy. Army Reserve Combat Medic drill at Fort McCoy - Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Then drive straight from there to check into the hotel in Marshfield for Roehl training beginning Monday morning. Whew!

Good luck out there! Remember to keep your eyes on the prize. The first few days learning how to drive a truck is going to be extremely frustrating and nerve racking, we've all been there. Remember to take a deep breath and relax; keep reminding yourself why you're doing this, why you need this.

You got a great family of fellow drivers to pick you up and cheer you on when the times get tough, and they will. This isn't an easy career/lifestyle especially when time away from loved ones is involved.

Low Regional miles? I don't know what that is. In my first year driving Midwest Regional I drove just over 158000 miles in my first year of trucking. My head is still spinning on how a 120k mile commitment equates to 15 months. Y'all are scaring me and I'll hush now lol.

Thank you, Susan D. The "cheering on" does help. Especially when it's something so different than what I've done before. I have to admit, though. I can't help but smile when I think about what's in my windshield view now.

The 15 months = 120,000 miles isn't completely an accurate thing. It depends on a lot of factors: Really, the only goal and timeframe commitment is 120,000 miles whether you complete that in 8 months, 1 year, or 15 months...any timeframe really. They just use that 15 month thing to give Newbies a basic idea, I think. For example, they have different hometime options. I'll be out 14 days and home for 3 at a time. Or, I can stay out as long as I want. But, if I switched to a hometime option of 7 days out/7 days home, obviously I'll accrue miles at a slower rate that way. And of course, I don't really know how many miles per week I'll really get yet. Hopefully a bunch. But, that remains to be seen until I'm on the road Solo. Really it boils down to however long it takes to complete 120,000 miles, whether its a short timeframe or a long one.

Being new to this, I think it's hard for some new drivers to understand what timeframe 120,000 miles can equate to. So they throw a hypothetical time period on there to give it some rationalization. The contract though, says nothing about 15 months. It's just when you complete 120,000 miles.

We have been at the top the entire time I have worked for them. Did I mention our trucks are blue? Even though the fleet consists of between 300-350 trucks; it feels like a much smaller company.

The company I work for is based in Wisconsin. Just down the road from Marshfield in Amherst.

.... That wouldn’t be H.O. Wolding, would it? I’ve heard they are a very good Wisconsin based company. What type of freight do you haul there?
