Best (?) LTL Carrier for Linehaul
I can’t answer you which union ltl is best but each LTL carrier has some great things about them and all of them have a few downsides. If your looking to relocate to someplace like Colorado Springs you’ll have to study and see which terminals have line haul. They have smaller terminals there and most only have shuttles and/or city. Check and see if any terminals are still doing dock to driver. At this moment there are furloughed drivers that will have to be brought back before companies start back with new hires. In LTL seniority is everything. You will start on the extra board. I did really well on the extra board but that was when freight was consistent. You will be at the mercy of the amount of freight. How long your in the extra board can very from about a year to several years. Depends on the freight and how many bid runs are available. Typically fall is a bad time to apply to ltl as fright tends to decline somewhat and hiring can be limited.

Stupid Question About Doubles & Triples
Some of the drivers have a Lotta skills and can back up straight double pups a short distance and a Rocky Mountain double a little ways more. A lot of them get really good at backing a trailer with a gear to hook up the rear trailer. Triples not usually. Only time that you usually see us not driving is during our lunch break and we will usually pick selective parking as We are only going to be there for a bit in the middle night most often. If you get a set like these in a bind you will have to break it apart and find a better location to rebuild the set. Rehook all of it and go again. very time-consuming. When you get to the terminal you will break the set apart and dock or drop all trailers accordingly.

Doubles, triples and Rocky’s are used mostly by LTL. there are a lot of benefits to loading them and the ability to drop and hook. The Rocky Mountain doubles max out at 105,000. So yes you can haul more in those

AMT asking for double trailer length increase from 28' - 33'
As a ltl driver it would work. There is no trailer swing behind the axles as they are set at the rear of the trailer just like the 28’ pups now. I drive mostly Rocky Mountain doubles. A 48’ with a pup. No problems driving down the road and to those of us used to them very little trouble maneuvering around. The weight on these are 105,000 or 106,000. So the trailers they are requesting are a step between pup doubles and rocky set. The everyday otr driver wouldn’t be driving them anyways just like they are not endorsed for them now.

I agree with Bobcat. I chose both by going with line haul also. Which is more important will definitely be different for each person. I like still having a consistent home life everyday doing all the same activities I’ve always done. For me home time is my top priority but luckily I didn’t have to choose only one. My job is a perfect fit for me.

If you concentrate on your sleep pattern it helps. Dark curtains to keep your bedroom dark and melatonin will help with sleeping during the day. If you start getting tired while driving change things up. If you where listening to music try silence for a few minutes. What ever works for you because getting into a monotony is what will escalate how tired you feel. I prefer driving at night but it does take some getting used to

DAC report? Need help, please!
This forum is an excellent place to learn from others how to move forward on a career with a CDL. it’s our responsibility to look into jobs within our qualifications and fully understand the job descriptions. New drivers need to commit for at least a year to show their ability to do the job. Your not going to adjust to something like a night shift in 1 week and you have to work at in to make the change over. Your next application needs to be 100% honest including your work history. If you land another job commit to stepping up to the challenges until you have a work history worthy of shopping around for any job you want.

Hopefully you got trough I-80 safely. If you waited it out I-80 is improving quickly. It’s good going up the hill then is snow covered with some ice. It will clear off quickly when the storm brakes.
