Trying trying to get some information or a female perspective from Jim Palmer. I have wanted to go to the school since they opened. What I'm trying to find out is the requirements. I have a really squeaky clean record both criminal and driving. I have all my paperwork ready. I am really ready to take my permit test again. (Did this once before at another company). Going back three years I only had one small employment gap. And that was because we were moving out of state. I am 46 married with no kids. And I am so ready to do this! Any direction I should go should I just call them.

Day 3 04/03/2019

Van picked us up at 7am. This morning. So funny to arrive at 7:10 and still be sitting here an hour later... but it'll only be 20 minutes more. Haha. Ok, more time to review pretrip.

We signed our CDL school contract. Simply put, the cost is $3500 and at no time will $ be deducted from your pay. At 6 months $1750 is forgiven. At 12 months the remaining $1750 is forgiven. So stick around for a year and no cost to you. Even if you were to leave after 6 months, you'll only pay 1/2. Really very fair and one of the best agreements out there in my opinion, and a more than fair price for training when compared to others.

Overall so far, I am impressed. I like the small feel making it more personalized, you are you and not a number. Everyone is very friendly and encouraging.

The Wilson's (Father and son) we are told are very approachable and we are encouraged to stop in and say hi if they are here as they like to know there drivers.

About 1pm Darwin took us out for a pre-trip run through then into the truck to pull forward and straight back, then out to a 45 degree angle to back. Also had a student pull out to show the angle you'll want to take a picture of in your mind for the 90 degree back. I did all right as he helped me and wow, what a thrill! Oh yeah, the 2 students that had to still pass their permit test did it. We are still a group of 5.

And that concluded our day. Tomorrow out on the roads driving Cheers!

Did sage help with the cost of the motel? Just curious as I was thinking of them but all of them are so far away from me.

Hey everyone! I am the one that used to be called Lil Carolina and here is an update! Yes I did attend Celadon/Quality Drivers back in 2013 Yes I did go home early.. I had too much going on back then and I just wasn't prepared for what this industry really is about. I do not blame Celadon or any of the other students.. I simply had to figure some Life out before I attempted this again.. So here it is 2016, and yes I am heading back in the next month or so.. I am not sure when I will leave as of yet. So update on procedure.. back then we had to transfer our licenses to Indiana and become a temporary resident in order to get our permits, well now you get a permit in your home state,which I have done. Oregon on the other hand has really got to get there stuff together, I have a permit just not in my hand.. Instead of sending me my permit they sent me 3 copies of my DL LOL yes funny but frustrating.. I will be handling this on Friday.. They want me to retake the combination portion of the tests as it has been a few months back. After I finally receive that in my hand I will contact my recruiter again and let her know so that we can schedule a date.. I know that its a long journey, I know what to expect this time around. I also know that I will be sharing my practice time with possibly hundreds of other students! I am going to utilize my down time to practice and work on the pre trip. I will not let anything get me down this time! Trucking is what you make it!! Secondly, I don't expect to be rich my first year, I know the wages suck.. I am not about making money at this point, I am about learning, and getting the experience I need so that I can move on to better things..

I have my learners. I took the test here in Virginia.

My roommate said if we have our permit from our home state we will be put in group D and we will go to the DMV first tomorrow to transfer them to Missouri.

I am so glad that I was proactive before applying this time. I have a trainer lined up already. Celadon approved. Thank goodness I kept in touch with people there.

They only do urine.

Is drug test ua only or both. I'm a bald guy 28th minimal hair else where. Just wondering don't want to get rejected.

There are a few companies out there that will work with you, You will just have to do the paperwork. Get a few notorized letters from people who knew what you were doing other than sitting back with a few beers on the sofa.. I had the same issue coming from being a stay at home mom and they worked with me.. And there were more willing to accept me and I had to make my own decision as to where to go.. I will list a few.. Swift, Celadon, Jim Palmer Trucking, Prime, and a brand new one XPO Logistics (the old Conway) infact I spoke with them more than once and wanted to go there but location was a factor they just opened up a new school which provides food, lodging and transportation at their cost.. Doug, thanks for the honest and straightforward reply. No offense taken. I figured it was a long shot, which is why I asked the other questions.

It seems I will need to go back to my most recent job and start building a more stable verifiable work history.

Any idea on how long it might take me, working steadily in a verifiable job, to have a shot at being accepted for a company-sponsored training program?

That is great that they saw there was a problem with the backing range and did something to fix it.. Pre trip I had down I could say it in my sleep but yes making sure I review it.. I still have the sheets max gave me not sure if there are any changes on that.. Katie has been a great recruiter which totally blew me away I remember my recruiter before took pulling teeth to communicate.. It makes a girl feel great to know you are being treated well.. I saw the simulator on Facebook the other day and I want to try that thing just to see if it helps or not.. I am not worried about learning my backing maneuvers as I still have them memorized like it was yesterday however practice is what I need.. And those break tests and in cab Ya I am pretty sure I have them down just not too thrilled about preforming it for an audience (didn't know I was trying out for an acting job) Just kidding.. So how many weeks did it take you to test? just curious

@sweet potato Yea max is the best but you'll be happy to know that they switched up a few things(but my mostly everything on my post is the same except these two new things) on how they do the range now. Before it was a bunch of people vying for a spot to get in the truck. Now since they have so many people they switched up to giving out times in two hour increments. So it'll be a certain amount at one time then the next two hours another group comes out to the range. Second thing...They've also added 4 simulators to the classroom next to Max's class. So you'll get some practice on that. But im sorry to say you will do that safe start, in cab inspection, and air brake check verbally in front of everyone. But one tip from a guy who is headed to North Carolina tomorrow to do some local runs(check for my post on this in about 5 minutes) with a local trainer...study the H.E double hockey sticks outta that pre trip inspection.
