This is a most excellent article! It is well thought out. I am Kimberly Packard and I am just starting out on my trucking adventure. I have done a multitude of different types of jobs in the past. I had decided to pay for CDL training at a local CDL training facility. To me it is an investment just like it was for you Rainey. I have heard the horror stories and the exaggerated horror stories and was a bit apprehensive about who my trainer will be but after reading your article I am thinking that my frame of mind is the same as yours.. to keep the goal of becoming the best truck driver I can be. I am in this for the long haul. I get to see the country, get paid for it and meet allot of interesting people along the way. I have about 3 or 4 offers from trucking companies already. I have about 2 weeks left of trucking school and I will probably try to test out next Friday. I have narrowed down my picks for trucking companies such as Stevensons Transport, Roehl, Maverick, or PAM. I like the incentives for safe training from Roehl and Maverick but I like the Stevens trucks and incentives. Does anyone know if Stevensons Transport gives additional safe driving programs. I know that I will be assigned a trainer after orientation. Anyway advice from some of you wonderful seasoned veterans would be appreciated.
Thanks
Kimberly
