1099 company driver responsible for fuel?

Greg M, Turtle, thank you both for the information you provided. I should have definitely done research before taking the job, i was so eager to get back to work, i didn't bother to educate myself before making any moves.

1099 company driver responsible for fuel?

Hi all, i hope you're all fairing well during these interesting times. I was wondering if any of you know if it's normal for company driver under a 1099 contract to have fuel deducted from pay?

Employer: 28 percent of rate confirmation after fuel reduction.

I'm new to the 1099 game, any help would be appreciated 🙂

Bait and Switch?

It depends on how much you like working for this company. If they are paying you by the hour it would seem like any and all your required duties are being compensated. If you are paid by the load or the mile then basically you are working for free. Size up the total outlook on this job before making a drastic decision that could cause you to look for another job.

I am payed by the hour. Im just worried that they are slowly moving me into the yard jockey position, went from doing it once a week, to almost every night now

Bait and Switch?

Hey guys and gals, I've been driving for Leonard's Express for 3 months now as a local night driver. During the interview and orientation they explained to me that i would just be delivering to various customers within 300 miles(which is great), but they never told me that i would also be doing yard jockey work as well for some of these places. i asked them about that and they told that they also contract out the night drivers for companies that need jockeys. if i have known that i probably would not have taken the position(i reaaaalllly dont like yard work). what would you guys do in my position? am i being unrealistic and just suck it up?

Thanks in advance

Physical fitness on the road

When i was OTR i used two 25 pound weights to work out the arms. i also placed them in a backpack and did mini hikes at rest areas if i had the time.

Descending steep downgrades in an automatic

This may be alittle late, but i found out that your mechanic can turn on the ACC using a computer. apparently by default it is turned off.

That is one thing I disliked at first, with the International LT, or at least, my LT. The ACC doesn't work for diddly squat with my Jakes. I really got spoiled on my mentor's truck, and then my first Freightliner Lightweight. Now, put it in 8th or 9th, set my Jakes, and then break as needed to maintain speed. Although, I sometimes forget to put it back in auto mode.

Need some advice

Thanks for all of the replies as well as the tips and tricks, ill give it a go tonight. Delivering to the same inclined dock tonight.

@Splitter,Congrats on the 18 freighliner. I dunno why but i like the sound it gives off when releasing the brakes lol! I think it might be cause it sounds like a turbo flutter.

@Annee, i really love the automatic trucks. The only thing i i have to say i dont like about mine is that it sometimes starts in a too high of a gear when loaded and bounces a bit. Nothing major for me to complain about since i can drop it down a gear.

@Danielsahn, i was definitely spoiled by the 17 freightliner cascadia. It holds your designated speed when cruise is enabled. Pretty much set and forget lol.

Need some advice

I thought about doing that but i got scared about the idea of clutch abuse. Transmission gave me grief for trying to slide my tandems lol. I'll still give it a shot though. How is the 2018 LT by the way? Does the engine brake engage automatically while in cruise control on down-grades? Or do you still have to be more proactive with controling the decent.

Im currently driving an international Prostar, unsure of the year...possibly 2017. It's an automatic, which is fine. But backing into a dock on a climbing incline is challenging. I tend to roll forward then back and roll forward again, not a smooth motion. Any advice on backing an auto? Thanks

P.S. There is no creep mode on the truck and im the lowest reverse gear

I have the same issue with my 2018 LT.... I use my left foot on the break, and pretend it is a clutch. It works most of the time. Give it *gas* {fuel} as you release the break gradually.
