Appreciate your insight, but I'm well aware of the differences between my current job and a professional driver; the differences are stark. Imagine if you will, being hired to do a job and that job took at most one hour of your day and that was a good day. The rest of your day is sitting in your office staring at your computer screen. And the building you work in has no Windows.
I have spent over the last 20 years, especially the last 12 in the army being charged with a tremendous amount of responsibility. I'm not wired that way to continue on in my current job.
In my mind, being a professional driver suits me to a T and can't wait to get started in my second career and put forth the effort as I did in my first career.
I really appreciate all the encouragement and the sharing of everyone's experience...this is a great help as I move closer to making it a reality.

Hi folks First, let me give you brief history. I retired from the military almost a year ago. I was fortunate to be hired as a Defense Department civilian and will always be grateful for the opportunity.
My problem is I'm going crazy with the slow pace of the job and need to make a change...if not for anything but my own sanity. Hence I'm seriously considering becoming a trucker. I have been studying the prospect rather intently and Truckingtruth has been a large part of my research.
I would greatly appreciate any advice anyone is willing to share. I'm considering attending Roadmaster and looking into applying to Schneider's apprenticeship program. I'm fortunate enough to use my GI Bill to pay for my education. My wife is very supportive and we are empty nesters.
Again, if anyone has other options that i should look into, please don't hesitate to share.
I guess I should also mention we live in NC and we have no plans to relocate.
Thank you so much for your time

Considering a career change
Hi everyone Had a great conversation with TMC today. This was the phone call I was waiting for as I have narrowed my companies of choice down to 2. Roehl or TMC, for me personally I have decided to go with TMC. Believe they are the right fit for me as well as my gut feeling.
having said that, I now need to decide on a school to complete my CDL. Have been looking at Roadmaster....does anyone have any experience with Roadmaster?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks B
