Here's the main point:
I make a podcast about bravery, I'm looking for people with brave stories who need help to overcome a challenge, obstacle or fear, to be featured in our series.
Here's the whole idea:
I produce a podcast called Everyday Bravery (everydaybravery.com). I make it for a company called Prudential. The show is, well, about everyday acts of courage. Basically, the series - this season - tells the stories of regular Americans facing challenges, overcoming obstacles or tackling their fears. In the episode, we follow them on their journey and find ways to help them meet their goals, and help them find their guts.
I'm looking for stories of bravery and have this idea that some can be found in the trucking industry, so here's my pitch for you.
I'm hoping I could find an interesting person out there who's just starting out their training towards a license this summer. By "interesting", I mean someone who comes to this vocation with a compelling back story.
Say, for example, they are unemployed with a baby on the way and they see this as an opportunity to provide for the family - except they have a fear of driving.
Or they're a new immigrant to America, and have been through some crazy stuff to get here, and learning to drive is, for them, an intense a challenging experience.
If I've got you curious, here's a few examples of some of the stories we're producing:
-After his wife dies suddenly, a young father finds himself overwhelmed learning to raise three boys under age 6 by himself;
-A mom decides to invest in herself and launch her first independent business - a food truck; but then her son falls dangerously ill;
-A young man with autism hopes to raise funds for a skills training college program, so he decides to climb a mountain to do so;
-A 64 year-old man with a history of crime and drug addiction is released from prison and must figure out how to start is life over, even as many others his age consider retirement.
I drive a motorcycle and basically have an appreciation for engines big and small. I think that's why my (half-baked?) idea of finding a story of bravery through the lens of trucking appeals to me so much.
Anyway, thanks for reading if you made it through the end. If you've heard through your respective grapevines of stories or people who have incredible stories that need to be told, but most importantly, have a challenge/obstacle/fear they could use some help tackling, I'd be grateful to hear from you. You can post here or reach me at my work address, dominic.girard@pacific-content.com. (if you have leads or other forums you think I should connect with, that would be great too.)
