Secure dolly support in raised position?
Student; cdl permit
I just know this is a DOH! moment, but I can't figure out what they are talking about. Here are the instructions (part of doubles/triples - hooking up additional trailers - here we are moving the dolly, with the truck, to the 2nd trailer):
Or, use the tractor and first semitrailer to pick up the converter dolly:
Position combination as close as possible to converter dolly.
Move dolly to rear of first semi-trailer and couple it to the trailer.
Lock pintle hook.
Secure dolly support in raised position.
Pull dolly into position as close as possible to nose of the second semitrailer.
Lower dolly support.
Unhook dolly from first trailer.
Wheel dolly into position in front of second trailer in line with the kingpin.
What are they talking about? "Secure dolly support in raised position." Seems to me the dolly is already up (hook locked). Does this mean 'Make sure all loose hardware isn't dangling'. (But then they lower it??)
Thanks. (Please don't shame me :-) )

What forum to use; cdl permit study questions
Student; cdl permit study.
Does anyone know of a group/list that is operated to field questions that come during cdl permit study? This group is nice but I think may drive them crazy with irritation if I start asking these things. Seems this is more of a chat place. I didn't see a new student's question group here. Maybe google groups has something.
Thanks.

I understand good practice and having a drink during a run would not be good. I understand that. But I ask this anyway.
Before your 10 hours off, you have dinner and one beer.
Q1. You do not go back to the truck until 10 hours after the last sip. Are you legal?
Q2. You return to the truck 1 hour after the last sip. There will be a blood alcohol level above nothing. You intend to go to bed. Are you legal?

How is a driver killed in a rollover?
Student; cdl permit
It's pointed out, more than once, that accidents with rollovers kill many drivers.
I understand that rolling over is a violent event, but what is it that makes it so deadly? Head on crashes are violent too but air bags save many.
(Do truck drivers use a better seat belt? Do cabs have a roll bar and airbags? If it's head injuries that kill, would wearing a light helmet help?)
I did a fair amount of searching on the web and I couldn't really find good answers.
Op, if you think this is just to macabre remove it. I was curious if there was anything one could do, save caution, to better the odds.

For the first violation, is it 90 days or 6 months? (Site say 6 months - other manuals say 90 days.)
Thank you.

Hos as of 2018; 34 hour reset; 1am to 5am periods
Greetings to all. I'm running thru the site's cdl training program and have a question about the 34 hour reset and its 1am to 5am period requirement.
I was checking on other aspects of the hos subject when I came across some posts about the law changing this. I wasn't able to determine if these hours (1am - 5am) are still required in the 34 hour reset mix or not. The site says it is.
Are two periods of 1am to 5am still required in a 34 hour reset or not?
Thank you.

On duty? Working on line for others.
I have a few business accounts that require maintenance. I am paid for this work and expect it to take no more than 1 or 2 hours a week. It is done on line.
Is this work considered 'on duty'?
This is not a transport company policy question.
Thank you.
