How do I get back in to trucking after 6 yrs!

Thank You Robert D. (Raptor)! Yes I am going to just go take my test to get my permit and HAZMAT endorsement again and then just start talking to the companies I have looked up and interested in that will either put me thru their school again to get my CDL again and I am also good with having to go back out with a trainer again. I know that laws and regulations have changed since I was a driver. Thank You for the links you sent me. I was looking a Rohel Trucking or Crete.

Monica S.

There many companies that will give you a shot. You just have to apply. Ok you may still have to go back through some refresher. Usually they want within a couple of years.

Try these links:

Apply For Paid CDL Training, and Paid CDL Training Programs,

There are many companies that will give you a refresher course. If you have your permit than all you have to do is get your CDL back. Why pay for it if you don't have to.

I'm sure one of the moderators will chime in soon and maybe give you a better thing on your 5 year DUI.

Good luck and be safe.

Can't Find Drivers

Hi, I was a female driver about 7 years ago and looking to get back into driving again. Yes, It is soooo much harder for females in this industry but....and a BIG BUT...... It is really starting to turn around! At first it was an attitude that a woman should not be doing a mans job but with the world today, Woman have to step up because the men are not doing the job and also families need 2 plus incomes now so the trucking industry is finally getting used to it. But still not saying it is easy for us! I would be interested in your company! I am looking to drive again at the first of the year after 7 years off the road and I am excited. More excited to now see there are WOMEN OWNED COMPANIES OUT THERE!!! YOU GO GIRL!!! I GOT YOUR BACK!!!!

How do I get back in to trucking after 6 yrs!

Hey everyone, Hope all of you are doing great out on the road and the family at home is doing awesome! I was a driver for a couple of years in 2010-2012. I want to go back OTR! I just need a little advice. I was married for 17 years and my husband was a driver for schnieder and I was a veterinarian surgical technician raising our 3 children. After they left home for college I decided to get my license and go OTR ! He was shocked because I just went to the DMV and took my test with my HAZMAT test and passed them all. No school or studying. I went OTR with him with the company he was driving for as team drivers. Then a regional mgr at the company was starting his own trucking business and ask my husband and I to join. He only had 4 trucks to start. My husband agreed so we drove Solo for him. I was only with schnieder for 2 months as a new driver when this change happened. Then 7 months for the O/O (SOLO) we were driving for when he decided to lease our trucks to a bigger company but a not so well known company and things got bad. The owner was as shocked as well. He was amazing to work for but once the lease company took over it was horrible. We might sit for 3 days without a load. So then we left there and I went to one company and my husband went to another. Things did not go so well with us driving for separate companies and a marriage. We both decided to get off the road for our marriage. So I drove for 3 companies in 2 years. I had always had a clean driving record ( this is at the age of 43). My daughter and her husband started having my sweet grandbabies and I worked and kept the grandkids on my days off so she could go to nursing school because he works all over the united states and is gone working oil refineries. My Aunt was killed in a car accident because of icy roads and I was trying to get everyone flights and hold my mom together because it was her sister. My husband decided to go back OTR and left and said he could not have a marriage with him OTR and so we divorced after 17 years. Any that's my story but the day he left my daughter moved to North Dakota with the grandbabies because her husbands job at the oil refinery was now going to be 2 years long. After taking my daughter to the airport for the family to fly out I got a call from a coworker to ask if I could pick them up from an event and take them home because they had been drinking. I chose to do so! When I entered the restaurant they had several people there waiting for me because they knew I was going thru a lot at the time. They ordered me a apple beer which I had never drank before. They told me to sit and relax and not think about anything. Now I have a 5 year old DUI on my record! Just added to the devastation! Do NOT EVER DRINK ONE SIP AND DRIVE!!!! Now to what I need to know, Can I get a job at a great company with my 5 yr DUI and my job history in the trucking industry not beinat companies for very long? I am 48 almost 49 yrs old. Single and Grandkids are in school now and I want to go back OTR! I know I can get my CDL and Hazmat no problem, But what companies will hire me with the job history and Dui record? I have already pulled my PSP, MVR, and DAC. Any advice would be great! I would love to go back OTR! I miss it!! OH, Sorry for the long life story!
