Doug C.'s Bio

I am married with five grown children. I have always wanted to be a long haul truck driver. I read an article in the paper in May 2018 about the trucker shortage. This rekindled the old fire, so I've decided to pursue the dream. I got my DOT medical card and CDP in March. I will start training with CRST May 5.

I have backgrounds in open pit and underground mining, surgical technology, property management/ maintenance, years volunteering with hospice, and full time pastoral ministry. I also have a BS in psychology. I play guitar and piano, and enjoy photographing birds and animals.

CRST Update

Ron, thanks for the reply. At this point I have to decide how best to go forward to solve this situation. Like most, I don't have that kind of money so perhaps a payment plan can be made once it goes to collection. Also, I will admit that after this experience I'm not as excited about trucking as I was before I went off to school.

CRST Update

Just to update on my situation that took place in May. Today I finally received a statement from CRST for $5,280.00. This is the ONLY correspondence I received after contesting wrongful dismissal in early July. Anyone going to CRST be sure you read the Pre-Employment Training Agreement. Even if the company dismisses you for any reason, they will hold you to that agreement. Good luck to everybody, and I hope the best for you. Even though things didn't turn out the way I had hoped I would like to say that there are a lot of really fine instructors at Cedar Rapids school.

Leaving For School On Midnight May 4th

Hey guys, know it been a while. I submitted letters to CRST HR on August 8 and have never received a reply, nor have I received a school bill. I specifically asked exactly what were my obligations to the school because I wanted to know what I owed, and if I was under any obligation not to go to any other company. No response to date. Thanks.

Nothing to report. Sent letter to CRST H.R. about a week and a half ago, no reply. No school expense statement either.

Thanks Rob, and G-Town. I am drafting a letter that will go to CRST's Human Resources within a few days. I will enclose a written statement of about the safety issue, and a copy of the letter I sent to the school's director asking why I was dismissed when I was improving. I will update as the process goes along. Again thanks to everybody that been supportive through this ordeal.

G-Town, thank you for your input and believing me. I didn't know about the Swift incident, how sad. So far I have not received a billing statement from CRST, but I also do not have a release either. I don't want to be a trouble maker in all this unless it could save someone from injury or death. As far as I know the school might have already dealt with the situation. But I will consider filling a report with CRST's Human Resources/ Safety Department.
