It will vary by state, call your local DMV to find out. As I recall in New Mexico they wouldn't let me take the written test until I had my TSA clearance paper in hand.
Phil
I also got fingerprinted yesterday for the Hazmat endorsement. Illinois doesn't allow testing before the background check is complete, either. I went to the NJ DMV website to check on their requirements, but it really isn't clearly stated if you can test beforehand.

Is Illinois a cursed state to be a new driver in?
I have seen post like this before. I too am an Illinois resident that is going to Roehl for company sponsored training. I already got my permit in Illinois. I asked Stephanie from Roehl if I would have to retake the driving test after I passed mine at the Co. Sponsored training program. She has told me they have everything ironed out and i would not have to take anymore tests in Illinois. If I was to have problems at local DMV to give her a call, they have a contact within Jesse Whites office.
I am from Illinois also. It would be very surprising to me if you don't have to take the road test in Illinois. I have never heard of anyone getting an out of state cdl license to be recognized by Illinois.

CDL Schooling- Private vs Public?
Heavy C You actually found a local job right out of school? I'm looking at training locally myself. Mainly for the convenience of it. I'm pretty sure that I will have to go otr for at least a year before getting a local job. It would be nice to stay local, though.

I watched this accident video on YouTube. The white truck is in the inner left turn lane, and the red truck is in the outer left turn lane. Since the white truck was using the inner turn lane to make left turn, I would have thought that it would have been his fault. According to the Volvo driver, the other guy was ticketed. Your thoughts?

Costco is another great place to get glasses. They also have prescription sunglasses. They knock off 25 bucks from your second pair so I ended up getting both regular glasses and prescription sunglasses. If you have a membership already, it might be worth considering.

Take permit test without prior medical?
I received my Illinois cdl A permit before the DOT physical. My cdl school scheduled my physical (no earlier appointment was available). My permit did have some limitations because of this. I was limited as to where I could drive-only within the state. This didn't matter because I would never have driven in cdl school beyond the Illinois borders.
