You're driving record alone should have been a disqualifier. I spent nearly 2 decades in law enforcement before getting my CDL, and I have not seen many histories as shocking as yours. Realistically, you're almost un-insurable. Companies are going to investigate you thoroughly and you're probably not going to get many calls. If you can find work like someone said in towing or possibly dump trucks or maybe try logging companies until you're record has 3 to 5 years of good driving, you may be able to get OTR jobs.

Don't mistake honesty for condesention. Honestly, you've got an uphill battle.

I'm not completely familiar with all of the intricacies of your accident, but as a former cop who was injured in the line I know a lot about Workers Compensation. Do NOT sign any exit paperwork until your WC case is closed. Have an attorney look over it to make sure you're getting what you are entitled to. Do not think that all accidents are avoidable and do not take complete responsibility for any accident. Training only goes so far. I hate this happened and good luck moving forward.

As a former NC cop, I know this one! NC required that you show proof of liability insurance for your personal vehicles. Because you class A covers your class C as well. NCGS 20-111

I guess I should have been a little more clear. I would not jump right into the grind as O/O, I as just asking if that wait time as a company driver should be shorter. Thus of course would only happen if they OTR blood was passed down.

I have decided to get my cdl on my own after talking to some companies and some drivers in my area (mostly Tyson Foods). My question especially to the owner ops out here is; with the addition of all the new load boards and apps for getting loads, is it worthwhile to explore the owner op world immediately? My situation is different because I was raised by a pair of owner operating grandparents and spent 15 summers in a truck plus many afterschool days polishing the alcoas and cleaning off that yellow cat.

Turtle, that is such a great idea. This is why I love these boards, every time I come on here I learn things. As someone who diligently took notes while a Police Officer, I never thought to do that in the trucking industry. I know as I prepare to enter this grind, I'll learn much. Thanks for all y'all do!
