Hey folks. It's been a few months since I got hired on with Swift. I went to their c1 school in indy if you remember.

Just a catch up , I went otr for a few weeks, didn't like it too much. I was sitting a lot.

I asked and they delivered! They sent me to Moberly Walmart Dedicated. I found my calling. I did 3 months there before switching to Johnstown NY dc. I get home every week now. The paychecks are awesome.

As a whole, I would like to thank trucking truth. Yall straight up told the facts.

(To you would be Lease operators, dont do it..... my buddy is a lease with swift. Can you live on $7 a week?)

Swift has out right done good by me. And I will continue to perform for them. As a company, they operate like anyone else, to make money, but the people here go out of their way to help you out.

So again. Thank yall, and I'll still be snooping around here every now and then.

Ain't this the truth. I'm in week 4 with a mentor right now. And I have to say. Even with all the reading and "prep" I did, i am exhausted. Its not an easy life and its not one if those just jump in and go things. That said, loving every minute of it!

You got this! I'm on my second week with a mentor at swift. This was a total change of life for me, and I dont regret it one bit. You will love it.

I know I am new here. But I believe what people on this site are telling you. Take the advice of the ones with exp. I have none myself, but even I see that the truck you were looking at is overpriced for the year, miles and sheer amount of trucks out there right now.

Just an update to my progress. I passed state in Indiana on Thursday.

A lot of negative from people at the C1 school, but I found out you get out what you put in. I worked my ass off. I passed everything the first try. It took a total of 3 weeks and 4 days (not counting weekends). The school was a little backed up from the sheer amount of people. And a lot of folk did not take anything seriously so they will be there forever or kicked out. The instructors truly seemed to care about teaching. Overall, a decent experience. They did the job, they gave me the opportunity to get my CDL.

Today I got my paper license here at home (WNY). Orientation at Swift is scheduled in Syracuse for Monday the 29th. Cannot wait.

Thank you all for everything you share here. As I grow and learn ill continue to be active-ish here. (Read almost every day, but limit my posts) I came into this knowing that I know nothing, and continue with that mindset, soaking everything up I can from the folks with experience.

This is a complete lifestyle change for me, as previously I have never left WNY and always been home around family. I am going the Rainy way, as I at this time have started transferring my possessions to storage. I have a place to stay if absolutely needed, but i need to pay off debts and my vehicle and get a savings started. (this is all counting of course, that things continue smoothly with the on boarding process next week and mentor training goes well.)

I cannot, and will not let this opportunity fall from beneath me.

Then I'll re phrase. Learn what you want. Maybe learn the parts in the pti but expect that some things will be checked differently then In ur state. Do it c1s way....

Ok! So days 1 and 2 done. Day 3 right now.

First some tips for the new guys. HAVE YOUR DOCUMENTS WITH YOU. And make life easy on yourself, have your DOT physical done and cdl permit in hand BEFORE coming to training.

Make sure to have your long form physical with you. Drivers license and permit, SS card and Birth certificate.

I say this because many people came here without it and a few got sent home.

Next. LISTEN to the instructors and dont give attitude. I won't say anything more on this.

So. First day was easy, paperwork, paperwork, and more paperwork. Also DOT physical if you need it, and drug screen.

Second day: Demo of pre trip. We are given binders and forms and everything we need to learn. We also did a few tests. We were given time to go out with an instructor and shown a pre trip. We are also given time to do it ourselves a few times.

Third day, more tests, and a lot of focus on helping ourselves. By this point you have found who you are working with. Me and another student teamed up. We are given LOTS of time today to go out and work on pre trip Inspection. See a pattern here?

My advice, dont study pre trip before showing up here. Indiana has a very specific way to do pre trip, and c1 expects it done their way. Learn it here, learn it their way. It's simple, just study it and do it with a partner, correct eachother and learn. Third day down and loving it.

The instructors are here to help, but will not hold your hand. Be respectful, and everything falls into place.

I love hearing these. You all going forward and learning. I start school this Monday and cannot wait for my own stories.
