If you dont mind me chiming in. I not a veteran driver but I agree with G Town. Whoever the coordinator was that placed you with your mentor would have came from driver developement. In your training packet their number has to be listed. Also my mentors Dm was also my Dm during the training phase so any questions you have can be answered by your DM. If your having any legitimate issues or concerns with about your mentor please reach out to driver developement.

Congratulations for getting your CDL I dont know the area you.live in but you can try LazerSpot. Its a yard dog/shuttle position. They require you to have a class A. They train. It requires a lot of backing but if your comfortable with that then you would be ok.

This is why i love this website. That looks intimidating yet you did it with confidence. Me on the other hand it would have taken me about 1hr, 1000 pull ups and resets, and tear filled cry to dispatch to never send me to a place like that lol.Thanks for sharing!

I feel your pain. I also had a bambi situation last November in kansas on the way back from recovering a load due to a roll over that happened earlier in the day. Had to spend two days at swift kansas terminal just to be temporarily placed in another truck because they had to order the bumper

Congratulations!! I will be returning to swift soon. I can tell you everbody has their own experiences with swift. Personally i did not have a bad experience and im greatful for the support that i was given. Building positive relationships is very important. I cant wait to hear about your experiences and if swift works for you or not.

Personally I would try to avoid putting myself in that situation by avoiding any area where there could be a problem but it seems like he got thrown off route.

I've been sitting here thinking about what I would do, I would probably do the same thing reason being id feel safer in the truck then on foot.

But then again a bullet it a lot faster than the truck so you'd probably be better off letting them take what they want no load is worth getting shot over.

Sorry I really don't have a good answer and hope I never need to make that decision.

I too would feel safer inside the truck. From what i read from one site (don't know if its factual or not) that's what the driver was doing but then the people approached both sides of the drivers windows waving guns and I honestly believe that driver feared for their life and wanted to get out of there as fast as he or she could.

I'm still not back on the road driving, probably wont be for another few months but I come here to read posts just to stay updated and informed about whats going on in the trucking community. Anyway i ran across a news article and It kind of upset me:

My issue is why ruin the life of that FedEx driver that has nothing to do with why the protest are happening? That driver has to live with that experience for the rest of their life. I hope FedEx does not reprimand or take any action against that driver because I see no wrong doing in what happened. Its tragic but everyone is responsible for their own actions.

I would appreciate all of your opinions on this subject and what would you do if you had encountered that same situation? I only ask because I'm still a rookie driver as i have not completed my first year before I came off the road and I have learned a lot just by reading posts on this forum that will benefit me when i go back driving.

The beat advice I can give is to apply to as many companies as you can. Your backing accidents might label you as a "risk" for insurance purposes but it doesnt hurt to try. Best of Luck to you!

That's pretty interesting. I wonder what the maintenance on them will be like. What if a driver has a breakdown of some sort? Will truck shops have the equipment to repair or will they have to be towed into freightliner dealership?
