Survey: Your biggest worries and most important questions
Hey Sean, I just realized that "do the right thing" comment may have sounded like I thought you were a lousy Dad. Forgive me, that wasn't my intent. I was really thinking of keeping the big picture in mind on getting your training done. Always think long term when making trucking decisions. You'll be way ahead of the game by sticking with Wil-Trans for your training and rookie year. Honestly, that was my thinking. I just didn't have the time to expand on my thoughts.
Hang in there - and welcome to Texas!
I totally understand, and believe me after 20 years of bad memories in texas im ready to bounce 😂

Ill add something thats stays on topic.. ive read truckers truth explanation on truckers per diem as well as researched it elsewhere.. says after the tax reform company drivers don’t receive per diem UNLESS the company u work for has an alternate plan.. But it seems all confusing so can someone dumb it down for the newbies that don’t understand the jargon??

Ive always tried to do right by my kids, ex is a royal pain not willing to work together at all..
Im with ya on trying to catch up the cp as fast as possible.. hence why i came to yall for advice..
Ive researched texas laws on cp and yeah this state is ruthless and don’t even care if u see ur kids or not.. secondly u are correct on license suspensions and of course im thinking if you take my license im not able to work so how much sense does that make..🤦♂️🤦♂️ Dumb ass state!!
can i bypass the school and otr job opportunity and find someone local to train the hands on I need while earning money quickly, or is it best I jump on a bus to Missouri knowing I wont see any form of income for 30 days while in school but have possibly income coming in at the point???Sean, that shortcut plan will never work. Nobody will hire you that way. You've got to get on that bus.
Also, as soon as you can you've got to catch up on your child support. I'm from Texas. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people put in jail for being delinquent on child support. What's even worse, in your case, is that they will very quickly suspend your driver's license. Then you don't have a job.
Get the proper training. Get on top of that child support. Do the right thing!

Well I returned to the country a week ago and due to the holidays I’ve only had three days to accomplish anything.. In that short time Ive obtained my DOT physical, my Texas CDL Permit, contacted my recruiter for Wil Trans and submitted the proof needed to set a start date of either the 9th or 16th of this month..
Going to get a little personal but knowing a little bit about the situation will give understanding for some concerns.. I have my ex wife asking if I found a job yet (having only 1 day at the time she asked to actually look for employment.. like seriously!! 🤦♂️🤦♂️) if you deal with Texas child support you’ll know what what bs im talking about..
So this brings me to my thought process.. can i bypass the school and otr job opportunity and find someone local to train the hands on I need while earning money quickly, or is it best I jump on a bus to Missouri knowing I wont see any form of income for 30 days while in school but have possibly income coming in at the point???
Im fearful atm as it brings alot of what ifs and of course falling slightly behind on child support is going to occur regardless of what decision is chosen..
I will say if I go to the school I will commit myself to the training and not worry about these concerns for the moment so i can be successful with learning a new profession but id like to hear what others thoughts are ... and what you might do in this situation.

Thank you all for the responses.. hope to keep this thread going..
I will say I understand that a career change is difficult for anyone and comes with several challenges in itself and requires an individual to earn their stripes. My inquiry is based not on everything you read when it comes to reviews but as some have mentioned its what you put in to what you get back in return.. what concerns someone is when several people are having similar issues with one particular company, and its focused more on things beyond someone’s performance or out of their control.. things like pay being screwed up or being parked more than driving due to dispatch issues ect..
Ive pretty much just been a quiet soul on trucking truth at this point just reading and learning from whats been said and soaking in what info I can from what seems to be the only truthful place for information from honest people that know the real deal.. so im not out to bad mouth anyone or any company just hoping for some truth in it all..

Is it at all possible to be a trucker in the USA coming from the UK?
Work visas are damn near impossible going either direction. My partner is from the UK and i live in texas so we been having to do the flights back and forth honestly the only visa’s that have promise are either the k1 fiancee or cr1 spouse visa.
The CR1 is the only visa that allows immediate work in the US or in the UK
At my company we do have a brit who is a driver. He's been here for quite a few years and the company does indeed get him a work visa. It's quite rare though.
That's good to hear, do you know what visa type he is one? The H2-B visa says "This visa type is for a job where the employer’s needs must be one time, seasonal, peak load or intermittent" and "The job must be for less than 1 year".
I don't qualify for a H1-B visa as I don't have a degree and even if I did, an employer still wouldn't be permitted to sponsor someone on a H1-B visa for a job which doesn't require a degree.
I'm sure there are loop holes or ways employers can retain their foreign workers but I'm not familiar with the whole visa system at all.

WHAT DRIVES YOU!!
In 3 hours ill be on a bus heading to Wilson Logistics in Springfield, MO.. I arrived in Texas back in 1999... 20 years ago this year and spent 14 Years of that in security at the same job and two months ago i said enough is enough and I need a change.. a new career.
I sit here and reflect on what sacrifices ive had to endure in the last 20 years and more recently four years ago when I divorced, TX CP or shall I say the inability to support my kids financially while staying a float and more importantly watching my relationship from kids slowly disappear and being told to just disappear as I seem to be in and out (due to long hours and staying a float) Ive finally come to terms but by far this SACRIFICE is the biggest ive ever and will ever make to walk away to maintain their standard of living at all cost..
Im sharing this in response to something Brett directed at me in another post.. NO EXCUSES and TO FIND THAT FIRE THAT DRIVES YOU TO SUCCEED..
This is my fire to make the leap.. WHAT DRIVES YOU???
