Hey! I am an Illustrator transitioning into Commercial Driving after a few years of... well, learning everything I could at the company I worked for. I obtained my CDL in Nov 2020 and have been hauling flatbed eversince, whick I love. I am absorbing all the information and insights I can find on here as I learn the ropes. This forum is a gold mine!
Honk you on the road!

It’s legal even without those extra chains blocking the front and back from sliding as I brake/ accelerate. I put them on for my own sanity haha, i should’ve asked the loader to line ‘em up better that’s for sure. Lessons every day ;)
Thanks for the welcome! TT has answered so many questions when I started thinking about trying out trucking last year.. and it’s full of fascinating stories and a great, helpful community. I’m glad this forum exists :)
Hope to keep growing alongside all of you for a good while :) Cheers!
Hey Jo!
Hope you figured out if you wanted to do flatbed or not in those 6yrs since you posted ;) I’m on my 6th month as a driver, and I went straight to flatbedding Can/US, smack in the middle if winter, and I absolutely love it! You have to enjoy working a sweat and being a safe worker. It’s super easy to get hurt throwing straps, chains and tarps around. Everybody has a gazillion tricks and tips to get it right, quick and without hurting the body so much.. chat up other drivers, you’ll get good and smart fast! :)
Here are some loads I hauled.. I should take more pictures!
Thanks for all the pics, Pat! Really cool to see the variety of things you deal with. Flatbed is looking more and more interesting. Do you ever see any women in the field?
Haya, TicTac ~!!
Welcome to TT and thanks for sharing the pix; we LOVE this stuff, jsyk!!
Man, that 'last' pic.. those chains.. sheesh; I'm not LIKING THAT one bit. Well, if it's legal, I guess it rides, eh ?!? (Is it ?!?)
Again, thanx from the TT trucker's wife / cheerleader!! Hang around & post more! We love flatbed stuff; don't get enough, imho .. it's the HARDEST of 'em all. I pulled tanks for a bit, with my other half.
Stick around, please!
