There is a Schneider recruiting event near me that I want to go to and introduce myself. Basically I want to know if it is just a meet and greet and what I might need to wear or bring with me.

Thank you for your time.

Anytime I go to meet anyone, whether it is a recruiting event or a job fair, I always dress somewhat professional. I will wear jeans, clean no stains or holes, and usually a polo shirt or shirt with a collar. Wouldn't hurt to take along a resume as well.

Prime shirt, Swift hat and a CR England ink pen.wtf.gifrofl-3.gifrofl-3.gifrofl-3.gif

A list of questions and something to write the answers on. Button or polo shirt, no t-shirts. Clean pants and clean shoes that are tied. Boots are acceptable.

Dress to impress but a tie may be overkill.

A button front shirt for a trucker is like a prom tux for regular people. So wear one.

Bring a DMV printout. If you have a CDL permit and/or physical report Captain Obvious says bring 'em.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

We had three recruiters come to class last week. In preparation I had a résumé and brief cover letter expressing my interest in the company and thanking them for their time. I wore a nice button down shirt and a pair of dockers with clean tennis shoes. In retrospect I think for this industry and in that particular setting overkill is possible as the recruiter knows you're in class and are working on the range. Further, particularly for some of these smaller good ole boy flat bed companies, I'd say it's possible to come across as too prissy to do the work. In your particular situation where you are approaching a meet and greet as an outsider ( especially since its a large company like schnieder) I wouldn't hesitate to wear what I did. For the next in-class recruiter I will probably swap the dockers for clean jeans, keep the nice shirt, resume and cover letter. It appeared I was the only one in the group to give this whole thing any consideration but I can't say it made any difference one way or the other.
