Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

Brian M just a few questions, How far did you guys go when you were out on the road with the TE is it all local, like just Indiana or did ya get to see other states? And my recruiter said I didn't need Hazmat for Van OTR is that something I will have to get in orientation? Thanks for all the info greatly appreciate it.

HAZMAT:

Hazardous Materials

Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

It all depends on what you are signed up for and just who that week goes. Mine went like this my TE picked me up at the Gary oc Monday in the evening and since I'm doing the dollar tree we drove to the distribution center in Joliet. Slept there for the night. Tuesday we were suppose to have a load to deliver however all the loads got pushed back a day which rarely happens. So the rest of day the was going over paper work and procedures and doing some backing headed to Palatine il late the night to sleep in the lot. It was only about a 30 minute drive if I remember right. From there delivered to two other stores that were local. Slept at the store overnight went back to joliet the next day to get our next load. Got our load went to Gary oc to shower and eat and off to Laporte In which wasn't far either. Slept at the store next day delivered there south bend, in and Warsaw, in. Drver back to the Indianapolis oc for the night. Next day did some more paperwork and then headed home. This was my week 2 had a blast. So I only drove about 450 miles but other guys in my class had more ir about the same. As far as the hazmat goes it was not a requirement however you did have to take some computer classes that were about a hour and very simple stating that you understand the basics of hazmat and procedures. You will get a card that you will have to keep on you like your dot med card. Hope this helped.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
