Ouch, not a good start to your trip. If the pain is throbbing aspirin (not tylenol) always worked for me.

Sclose 757, a word of caution!

If you get prescribed some pain killer - hang onto the original bottle that it comes in and make sure you have the physicians name, phone number and fax number. You will need to disclose this information on the sheet they provide you before your drug test. This is VERY IMPORTANT! I don't want to see you ruin your career before you even get started because you didn't realize this - you will have a failed drug test on your record if you do not take care of this, and you may never get started if that is the case.

Would oragel and OTCs be ok like the basic tylenol advil and bayer? If so I'll just make do till after dot physical and drug test

Yes they will be fine, but I can't stress the importance of what I said before.

Even if you are prescribed some pain killers later, you still need all that information with you at all times. As a CDL license holder your employer can randomly drug test you at any time.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Also, if you are taking over the counter pain relief medication I suggest you reveal that on the sheet they give you prior to the drug test. This is something you should not take lightly.

I had a toothache and couldn't believe I could manage the pain by taking 800mg of Ibuprofen. That's a prescription amount so just take four 200mg pills. I would only do it as often as you can stand the pain.
