I am on amazon right now looking for a CB radio. There are so many to choose from! What are your suggestions?

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Depending on how much you are willing to spend will determine what you get.

You can almost not go wrong with a Cobra LTD29. Cobra brand is about the most common radio with a very good reputation.

There are other brands, just not sure about their quality (I used to be big in CB radio's back in the 70's). Until I got into truck driving, have not had a CB radio in years.

You might want to see what is available, then research the brand to find good/bad reviews before you commit to buying.

EPU:

Electric Auxiliary Power Units

Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices

Yeah the Cobra 29 series or Uniden 787 are great radios. You'll want one with the NOAA weather signal for sure. Great thing to have. You'll pay about $150-$200 for those radios. You can get something cheaper to hold you over but eventually you'll want a better one so you can add more power, better sound effects, and things of that nature.

If money isn't an issue, galaxy or Stryker will be the first and last radio you'll ever have to purchase. Matched with the right antenna, you get a strong radio with clean transmission.

Please keep in mind that you need a good cable to take the signal from your radio to the antennas. Have had an older rig with the original cable and new antennas with new Cobra radio that still couldn't push or receive signal very well. If you'e gonna install a system, be sure to put in good components or you have wasted your valuable $$$.

I've got a Galaxy DX48 Big Rig series 10 meter radio myself. Good coax, antenna and swr's set right and you'll reach out and touch someone. You'll hear skips from across the country on good days. If you want to try talking on a skip, you'll want to be parked because antennas are line-of-sight. If you're moving, your signal will have moving obstacles to get around. I skipped once from Waco Texas up to Rochester NY. It was brief but pretty fun. I've sat overnight in Charlotte and picked up skips from Ireland. Couldn't transmit that far though. CB's and Ham radios are pretty fun.

Galaxy would probably be my choice as I am also a ham. May be fun to see what contacts I could make while out on the road.dancing-banana.gifdancing-banana.gifdancing-banana.gif
