This happened in my town today. I was having my evening dinner at burger king between my college classes when I heard about it on the news. Quite the fireball they had going from it, considering the accident itself and the flames I'm surprised the driver only got minor burns and injuries... It could have been soooo much worse.

SAN ANTONIO — An 18-wheeler caught fire and fell from a Loop 410 overpass after crashing into an unattended truck on the shoulder Monday, according to police.

The big rig was heading north on Loop 410 near East Houston Street around 2 p.m. when it slammed into an empty Chevy truck.

The impact sent the 18-wheeler barreling off the overpass onto the street below. The big rig completely wiped out the guardrail on the overpass.

The driver of the 18-wheeler sustained minor burns and scratches and was taken to an area hospital.

Northbound Loop 410 has been reduced to one lane while crews work to clear the scene and repair the guardrail. Traffic is backed up for miles to the south in the northbound lanes.

The crash is expected to slow rush hour traffic and authorities said it could take several hours to clear the debris and re-open the road.

More details will be added to this developing story.

Wow, what a mess!

The driver of the 18-wheeler sustained minor burns and scratches and was taken to an area hospital.

That's about the best possible outcome I'd say. Lucky fella!
