I am soooo excited that I found this website. My name is Karen and I am in Alaska processing fish and decided to become a truck driver after this challenge and am looking forward to it. I know I may not become a millionaire at first but is truck driving a lucrative career? I have no children and hope I am making the right decision. According to this website and what I have read I don't know why I didn't make this decision long ago.

Well, I don't know if you will ever get rich off of trucking, but if you are a good worker you can make an honest living, and having no kids will definitely make your money go further. I'm getting into trucking as well, and I also have no kids or husband and no responsibilities other than myself. Right now, I pull in about 25k, and I can make it off of that. So making even 5k more is going to be like balling for me. Lol. Especially doing OTR , and wanting to be out on the road as much as possible, I won't have rent, or a car or a car bill. Money will definitely be good.

But heads up, just as the guys will tell you over in the general forum, don't get into trucking simply for the money because this is far more than just a job. This is a lifestyle, a way of living. If you start any job and have no appreciation or enjoyment for what you are doing, one day there is going to come a time when you don't feel like it's "worth the money" anymore. Trucking is no different.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
