Hey Bob, don't worry about that too much. Some companies run APU's which are just small engines used for heating, cooling, and charging to prevent having to idle the main engine. But most companies don't have these so you simply idle the main engine to keep warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
If you watch your idle time closely you'll have no problem idling when you need to. The only exception that normally comes to mind is California where they have very strict idle policies.
Schneider is an awesome company. I wouldn't take them out of the running for something like that. And I wouldn't choose a company based upon whether or not they have APU's. You'll be fine with or without em.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.
Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.

For trucks without apu's have optimized idle... When set your truck will heat/cool to a set temp and shut off till the cab reaches a set temp then then truck will start up and repeat..

New CDL holder, zero experience, looking for a company to start with.
"Schneider does not equip trucks with APU units but most trucks have auxiliary bunk heaters. They are fairly strict on idle time with a maximum of 25% idle time allowed."
So what does this mean? All night in the summer without cooling in the cab? How do you sleep? Can use some guidance from truckers please!
I idled at Schneider consistently with the engine running probably 23 hours a day when it was hot outside. Not a problem. Even the Company representatives put out a video for all the drivers that it was ok to idle. But I think it did come into play with affecting my bonus.
But I did stay cool! Schneider is an excellent place to begin a truck-driving career.
TIP: Just run as many miles as you can to make money.
