Oh man Daniel, I know it's not funny but I just couldn't help but chuckle as I was reading your post. Wow you couldn't have come up with a more crazy scenario than what you just went through if you had dreamed it up. Welcome to the crazy atmosphere of trucking, you get one of those loads that people dream about, and in fifteen minutes it's all blown up in your face. I just hope your reefer doesn't give out in the night!
I picked up a great load my self today, only problem is that it's my first "wide load" assignment. I'm going through nine states with it. I unloaded a load of I-beams this morning at the Alabama State Docks, but by the time I got this load on my trailer, secured, and then they got all the special permits to me my day was shot. I think I managed to squeeze in 179 miles today! So I'm kind of feeling your pain.
Sorry to hear it my friend, but I sure hope your day gets started better tomorrow. Let us know how long it takes to get you rolling again, and I sure hope they don't have to give that great run to somebody else.
A refrigerated trailer.
Haha! Well I'm 80% sure that due to this I won't make it. I just hope I can get in another day or two of driving it before it'll be repowered.
Today also also perfect because I got approved for hometime and ill be home in 9 days. So I had the privilege of telling everyone. I forgot to add that to my list of why today was perfect. Haha!
Daniel...you just need a faster truck.....to try and outrun that little black cloud that seems to be following you around. I hope your clutch fix is simple, and you get to make that nice long run. That would make a good paycheck....The low tire is just an annoyance compared to the clutch... GOOD LUCK !!!

Haha I wish! I'm forced to give up my load because I need to head to the Freightliner dealership for major repairs. They are having someone take my trailer and want me to bobtail 55 miles to the dealership without my clutch. So much for safety...
"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.

Well...look at it this way....if ya trash it the rest of the way....they really don't care, I guess. My view ?? I'd call Freightliner and tell em to bring the hook........Just my opinion...I don't like to drive "broke things"..safety issue for you and the motoring public....

Sorry double post.
That's exactly what I'm saying. When people here say "some days you'll feel like just giving up" this is the day I point to. But oh well, I've gotten great miles these past few weeks so not complaining :)
Had to give up my load and now at the Freightliner dealership. My dispatcher doesn't want me to sit for half a week so he's talking to his boss about getting me to recover a different truck and keep rolling and come back when this one is ready again... Or ill keep the one that ill recover.
If I had a lease I'd be so ****ed off right now. But thank God I don't.

I have been night driving for the past few days. But last night I finally slept. And I slept well! I woke up when I wanted to. Drove to my pickup and its a drop and hook!!! Wow perfect day! The load is light and its a 2500 mile run! I end my day at Austinburg, OH and plan to take a shower and sleep for a while again.
I fuel up and head to the CAT scale to scale myself out. I tell the voice on the intercom my truck number and I hop back in my truck to park for the night. Except it won't go into a gear...
My clutch broke! It's either all the way up or all the way to the floor. There's no "in between, no pressure - extremely squishy. My truck turns on but when I try to put it into a gear it acts like the clutch isn't even being touched. I asked 28 year veterans and they said my clutch spring broke. I'm broken down on the scale! Anyone had that before? I turn on the truck and force it into low gear and accelerate before my engine shuts off. I crawl to a parking spot and turn off my truck and push my brakes and engage my parking and trailer brakes to stop.
Half an hour later I notice I have a flat tire on my trailer also. The psi is only 55.
Anyone ever have a day that comes along perfectly but then it just turns into chaos?
CAT Scale:
A network of over 1,500 certified truck scales across the U.S. and Canada found primarily at truck stops. CAT scales are by far the most trustworthy scales out there.
In fact, CAT Scale offers an unconditional Guarantee:
“If you get an overweight fine from the state after our scale showed your legal, we will immediately check our scale. If our scale is wrong, we will reimburse you for the fine. If our scale is correct, a representative of CAT Scale Company will appear in court with the driver as a witness”
Drop And Hook:
Drop and hook means the driver will drop one trailer and hook to another one.
In order to speed up the pickup and delivery process a driver may be instructed to drop their empty trailer and hook to one that is already loaded, or drop their loaded trailer and hook to one that is already empty. That way the driver will not have to wait for a trailer to be loaded or unloaded.
