I just finished up my first week at Schneider's Green Bay training Academy and I couldn't be happier. Everyone that I've talked with has been very helpful. Answered any questions I could think of and the number one thing that is stressed, and I mean always stressed is Safety. It is the number one thing in their Mission. I go out with my training Engineer for the next week starting Monday. Come back that weekend, finish up week three the next week and off to get my truck where ever that may be and start turning and earning.
Bob, all of your needs will be met by any of the major Trucking Companies except one - travelling the entire country. Most dry van companies have regionalized routing for solo drivers. You'll normally stay within about a 1,000 mile radius of home. There will be exceptions, of course, but the overwhelming majority of the time you won't get much further from home.
If you want to get some coast to coast runs you'll want to look at refrigerated companies. They have the largest percentage of coast to coast freight of any type of company out there.
Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.

I think I have narrowed it to Schneider or Roehl. Both seem to have good training programs. Feedback on the web seems overall more positive than negative. What's important to me? Safety, integrity of the company, working toward living on the road, reliable equipment, and the chance to travel the whole country. Any opinions would be welcome. Thanks.
