So I started in this industry with Roehl Transport in there flatbed division and I fell in love with the work but the being away for extended periods of time with 2 about to be 3 babies at home wasn't working well for me or my spouse. I had found a job operating vacation trucks and tankers and it paid really well and excellent benefits however due to lack of work on the companies part I was only working 2 to 3 days a week which was enough to get by but I had to start looking. I found an ad online for a company 12 miles from my home looking for local drivers with flatbed experience specifically steel coils. I applied even though I was unsure if I had the amount of experience they were looking for . I was hired and have been working for them for almost 3 months now and I have to say I love it. I typically do 18 to 30 loads a week hauling steel coils and plate steel sheets on a flatbed covered wagon. I am home every night I am off every Sunday and most Saturdays and I earn a decent wage and can definitely say I still had the flatbed bug and I don't think I could ever haul anything else.
Covered Wagon:
A flatbed with specially fitted side plates and curved ribs supporting a tarp covering, commonly referred to as a "side kit". Named for the resemblance to horse-drawn covered wagons.
