I just called Swift and basically what i was told is well one swift employee said they have to be atleast 10 years or older and another person told me they have to be 12 years or older both of whom answer the phone for swift. IF they're 18 or older they can ride at anytime just can not be pregnant or hold a CLASS A CDL. He told me its gonna cost about a $1.50 a day and regardless who rides you have to pay an insurance fee to have a rider ride along with you. Hope this helps!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Joe...we're glad to have ya onboard here, but when you start talkin' about buyin' a truck, theres a few of us that get on our soap boxes. I'm and O/O...and wish I was a company driver. For every argument you have for the benefits of buyin' a truck, I can give you a horror story about someone losing everything they had, because of buyin' a truck. If there was buckets of money to be made out there if you buy a truck, there'd be alot less used trucks on the lots today....I'm just sayin' But thanks for the info on the job.....
