Tom C dropped this knowledge on us:

Well if I was you I would call all of them you never know till you ask! CR England ,knight, crist,USA trucking,jb hunt,Tyson foods,Walmart all have schools and many more.your problem is the ticket you got in august it's so recent. It's not the company's but rather there insurance company's that make the rules. You don't have to go to a school to get your cdl .you can study go to the DMV get your permit then study the pre trip, how to shift gear and rent a truck for your skills test. I have two friends that went this way. One went to http://www.cdltesttruck.com/ to rent his truck two years ago it was 250.00. back then texas did not make you do a pre test but that change and now you have too.

I just read the above...wtf-2.gif

FALSE. Walmart does not have a CDL truck driving school. They hire drivers with a minimum of 2 years OTR experience with a clean driving record.

FALSE. JB Hunt does not have a CDL truck driving school. You must have experience and a valid CDL to work for Hunt.

FALSE. Tyson Foods does not have a CDL truck driving school. According to their website they will however hire entry level drivers with a valid CDL from a certified truck driving school.

That may be true you can get your CDL without going to a school, but that is bad advice. Not going to school will definitely make it more difficult to find a job. By the way Tom C, what school did you go to? confused.gif

This website is called Trucking Truth, try telling it, the truth that is.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

Tom, you just wrote the biggest piece of Bull I've seen here recently.

LIE:

double-quotes-start.png

I don't know why all these guys are more for swift then helping you out ? Well I do they are swift management !!!

double-quotes-end.png

Who are these people in "Swift management" here? I looked back, G-town and I are the only people talking details about Swift. I know I'm not management, I've driven for Swift for 7 months. Unless you have ways to find out, I bet neither G-town nor I are "Management" .

LIE:

double-quotes-start.png

Things that are facts about swift there trucks only go 57mph some 63mph .

double-quotes-end.png

Swift trucks are governed at 63. This does save fuel. Not just Swift, I know Schneider's are also, it takes some doing to pass them.

Half Truth:

double-quotes-start.png

They have installed cameras in there trucks to watch there drivers

double-quotes-end.png

Cameras are there. The cameras face out front and to the cab. I'm not going into details here, search "driver cam" for all the forum flame. Other companies are also installing cameras.

LIE:

double-quotes-start.png

they are going to start buying all automatic trucks because they have a problem keeping truck drivers.so if you can't drive stick you will have a much harder time finding a different job

double-quotes-end.png

All companies get as many drivers as they need, and they always need more. The automatics do save on fuel. You can look up here "automatic transmission" to know why the automatics weren't used do much till now. Your comment about "if you can't drive a stick" contradicts yourself.

Tom C., Company driver in training, with 10 posts so far, please keep with the main theme here: Trucking TRUTH. This time you have claimed real falsehoods as truth. This forum has had quite a discussion on some of these things and you come in wanting to contradict facts. Some of this is low-level employee paranoia, like the cameras. They are there for insurance and liability issues. Automatics are the transmissions of the future. 63mph saves enough fuel to make it worthwhile for a company that runs over 20,000 trucks daily.

Tom C, read this until you have it memorized, all of it (and yes there will be a quiz later):

To confirm what Errol is betting on, I AM NOT MANAGEMENT. I am a SWIFT driver, have been for three years. The only things I manage are my clock, the space around my truck, my finances, and I manage the best I can to tell the truth all of the time. Last I looked Tom C. you are a driver in training (allegedly), and you do not work for SWIFT (a lucky guess) so how is it that you know what it's like to work for SWIFT and are an authority on their operation? Everything Errol states above (and he is being too kind) is 100% true.

The trucks Errol and I drive for SWIFT? Our trucks use a fuel called "Diesel". Have you heard of it? They do not burn gasoline. And also the engines in our trucks do not have spark plugs. You might want to research what happens when you put gasoline into a diesel engine. Just trying to help you out so that you don't make that mistake.

SWIFT did not write your Buddy a ticket for $200, only DOT and Police Departments can write a ticket for distracted driving. Did your buddy pay his ticket? If he did please notify the Darwin Awards committee cause; "we have a winner"!

In a very short period of time Tom C. you managed to make me angry (ok slightly) and make me laugh. To continue, two things make me angry; not getting paid and people who lie. In the three years I have worked for SWIFT they have never made me angry,...but you have! And you don't want to know what makes me laugh...cause you and the Three Stooges have something in common.

Do us all a favor Tom C... STOP posting this garbage! It serves no useful purpose. Although I do find you annoyingly entertaining (especially the gasoline reference, priceless), most of the people that read these posts are looking for real answers to their questions, not something that at best is highly misleading and inflammatory.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

All you need is to post what you know, not what you heard. I bet you're pretty good with stuff you know, but how do you know what you heard was any good? Not from most YouTube (Including negative stuff of any kind from a "trucker video").

My wife hates it when she posts things like "Rat Urine on Soda Cans!!" on Facebook, and I ask her to take it off, simply because there's no source for this news. (Check out the Mythbusters video)

Good for you. Good luck.

Just to be clear, according to their website JB Hunt does not have a company sponsored CDL school, nor do they endorse any schools. They will however hire entry level drivers as long as they have a valid CDL. If you have interest in driving for them right out of school, I suggest calling them to see what their training policies are or possibly entering a pre-application. Their website training content is very basic and a bit confusing because on another page they state that they hire experienced drivers. I apologize for any initial confusion I may have created by not digging a little deeper.

From what I have read according to company requirements. Theres not a single company that is going to train you with two speeding tickets that are 15+ over the limit. That is considered reckless driving and is a HUGE no no just like a DUI.

What happened? Did you find anyone to take you in?

My guess is you are going to have to wait 3 years past the newest one for it to fall off your 3 year MVR before you have a shot with zero experience. If you had experience you could get on a mom and pop probably but since you dont probably a snowballs chance in hell with two 15+ tickets.

Contact as many recruiters as you can, ppl say they lie and some might but they wont knowingly send you to training knowing you will be rejected thats a waste of their time. They only get money for you if you graduate AND you get hired.

MVR:

Motor Vehicle Record

An MVR is a report of your driving history, as reported from your state Department of Motor Vehicles. Information on this report may include Drivers License information, point history, violations, convictions, and license status on your driving record.

DUI:

Driving Under the Influence

OWI:

Operating While Intoxicated
