Straight from my cdl manual, if someone is tailgating you the proper procedure is to increase following distance.

Yes, making room is a good idea. Alas, I was not going to speed up to 15km/hr or more over the limit, pass the TT that was hanging in the middle lane, then race ahead down the hill that was coming, just so the truck behind me could pass on the right as well. That seemed less prudent than just staying the course. In the end it seems that the rusher was just in a mood to screw with people on the fwy.

  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.

If you like thrash metal, next time Overkill go on tour their merch table will have them. (They JUST finished a tour.) Or you can check to see if their webstore has them.

I think what he was saying is to increase your following distance to the vehicle in front of you by slowing down, not increase the following distance of the idiot behind you by speeding up.

Yes thats it, you cannot do much about a guy behind you, but you can increase your distance to the guy in front of you. In other words, when you are being tailgated, slow down.

Aye, I get that. I was traveling on a multilane FWY in the slow lane. I had lots of room in front, so I didn't need to slow to give myself a cushion. Methinks the driver wanted me to move into the middle lane so they could pass the TT that was in the middle lane on its right hand side. In Ontario, aside from left exits and passing lanes on hills, a TT cannot drive in the leftmost lane.

Evidently, it was my job to make sure they didn't have to slow down and when I wouldn't move they decided on a punishment pass. Not cool.

I was in Texas last month in a 65 mph governed rig passing a 62 mph governed rig. I passed made safe return with signal to right lane. Had literally 3 seconds go by and a Schneider truck blasted by doing 80+mph. Blowing his air horn and swerving so violently back and forth I thought he was gonna rollover right in front of me. Funny thing was not 15miles later I hit the love's in Weimar tx for my 10hr reset and there he was backed in a spot sleepin.

I mean gee wiz man. Calm down. 5 min is not worth killin people over...confused.gifwtf.gif
