30 minute parking for your break is easy. No need to reserve anywhere. Rest areas, by definition. Go through an off ramp that goes straight to the on ramp. Depending on how it looks (enough room, parking ok, etc.) I feel the on ramp side is safest.
I've done this: if a fuel stand at a truck stop is not too busy, pick a fuel lane farther from the store and pull through there, up to the yellow line and stop. You can get your 30 minutes in, unless someone pulls into your fuel station. But then you can just drive around and choose another empty lane.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Be super careful about that. Many companies have policies against parking on the ramps and some states also have laws against it. I used to do it myself from time to time and indeed you're right - the on ramp is the safest. A ton of people used to do it back in the day but in recent years a lot of companies have created policies against it and a lot of states have passed laws against it.
I find that truckers path app works great for rest areas and truck stops
I have an android phone and the apps I have to help with parking are:
RoadBreakers, MyDAT Trucker, Truckerpath
I also use this app for figuring my axle weights when I have to use a platform scale:
Trucker's Axle Weight Calculator
I also use the following:
CAT Scale , TruckSmart (TA/Petro), Love's Connect, MyPilot, Blue Beacon, AMBEST
This is what I use for the various things while I am on the road. It has helped me many times since I started driving.
Hope this list helps other folks to see the potential of having a smart phone.

There are Walmart truck parking apps available on most smart phones.
Ernie, how does the cat scale app work, you just open it up and drive truck over phone to get your weight?

You can try that if you like, I myself do not think it is such a good idea. But that's just me.

Now that is funny ****! And thank you Ernie for those app suggestions. It seems like almost every question I have is already being talked about. Excellent. Thank you David H. For posting the topic.

I'm just wondering what apps you guys use to help you find or reserve places to park for your breaks.
I know that some companies specify where you are to fuel up during your run. Do they also specify where you should take your break?
Just wondering, because it looks like finding a place to park is one of the main hassles of driving OTR.
Thanks!
OTR:
Over The Road
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
