2 Semi's- Head-on Collision, Both Truck Drivers Die

An accident at the eastbound Kingdom City exit on I-70 has left two dead and five with injuries Tuesday morning.

A copy of the crash report released by the Missouri State Highway Patrol identified the two fatalities as Charles S. Moore, 46, of Nicholasville, Kentucky, and Robert S. Brainerd, 46, of St. Louis. Both were pronounced dead at the scene at 11 a.m.

Listed in serious condition was Mark Goddard, 54, of Osawatomie, Kansas, Clara Conn, 71, and Sonny Conn, also 71, both of Moorehead, Kentucky.

Also, injured were Brandi Clements, 42, of Williamsburg, and Aaron Shipps, 23, of Osawatomie, Kansas.

The accident occurred at 9:15 a.m., and it involved seven vehicles — three tractor trailers, three pickup trucks and an SUV. According to the crash report, Moore and Brainerd, both identified as drivers of tractor trailers, had hit head on.

Prior to the released report earlier Tuesday, Scott White, the Troop F information officer with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, said that officers believed a vehicle traveling westbound on I-70 crossed the median into eastbound traffic.

The five people with injuries were transported to University Hospital in Columbia. Two others involved with the accident refused treatment at the scene, according to the Callaway County Ambulance District's Facebook page.

As a result of the accident, the Callaway County EMS activated its Mass Casualty Incident Response Plan. When enforced, the plan sends four Callaway County Ambulances, two EMS supervisors, the EMS director, an Audrain County Ambulance and two Montgomery County Ambulances to the scene. Units from all Callaway County Fire Departments also responded to the scene, as did officers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri State Highway Patrol Major Crash Team and the Callaway County Sheriff's office.

KINGDOM CITY, Mo. (KMOV.com) - Two people have died following a multi-vehicle crash that closed a portion of I-70 in Kingdom City, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the accident happened on Tuesday when a pickup truck hydroplaned and became wedged underneath a semi trailer. The semi then hit another truck and collided head on with a second tractor trailer.

Robert Brainerd, 46, of St. Louis was driving the second semi and died following the collision. A man from Kentucky was also killed in the accident.
