Sorry to sidetrack this thread, but to answer your question, the tacos were only average, and at about a dollar a piece I thought I would never get it done. I've eaten more tacos than most Mexican Nationals, and my good friends got a lot of them too. A funny side note to this whole adventure is that the owner of the restaurant called me one day to tell me that he was closing down the restaurant, and he still owed me about five hundred bucks. He told me that the only way I was going to be able to collect it was to come down their that day and get five hundred dollars worth of Baskin Robbins ice cream out of his cooler. So I loaded up the back of a 3/4 ton pick-up with five gallon containers of ice cream and drove around to all my friends houses letting them pick out which flavor they wanted. What else could I do? It was all going to melt, and I didn't have a walk-in freezer at the house. I was glad to have the whole ordeal over with, and it was fun seeing the look on peoples faces when they got to pick out their personal favorite flavor of Baskin Robbins in a five gallon tub.
Bigdubber,
1) I chose Crete after a lot of research and speaking with various companies. I chose what I thought would be best for me. I visited one of their terminals before making my decision. Everyone was friendly and very helpful. Their recruiter spent 2 hours talking to me and another of my classmates. Were else will you get that attention? They also had one of the best starting CPM and training pay. I felt confident they would be a great training company, and possibly career company. I have only heard good things about them!
2) I graduated Feb. 25. I was working full time while going to school. I did not want to burn any bridges, so I put in a 2 weeks notice at my employer. Which gets us to March 11.I had vacation time built up so I used that payout to get prepared for going OTR. I have a house and wife to take care of before leaving. I needed time to get caught up after working full time and going to school full time at the same time.
Crete understood my situation and was fine with me having to wait to start training. I also feel very confident in my training from school, and believe I will be able to hop back in the truck with no problem.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Drivers are often paid by the mile and it's given in cents per mile, or cpm.

Operating While Intoxicated
Hey TruckingTruth,
I will begin orientation/training with Crete Carrier Corp. on May 19. It will be an 8 week training program, and then I will become a solo OTR driver. I will do my best to keep you updated as I go through the process. If anyone is interested in more detailed info on Crete, please feel free to ask. Also, feel free to ask any questions about my entire process from start to finish. I will be more than happy to pay it forward and help on the same forum that has helped me. Good luck to all my fellow newbies out there that are headed for the same process. Wish me luck!
