Consequence? By checking no? Your disqualified. No Class A.
Your action- wait until you're 21. That's the law, as I understand it.
Also, get a job, build up your work history. That's what EVERY employer wants.

If you are NOT 21, you might only be eligible for an INTRASTATE CDL , as opposed to an INTERSTATE CDL, which is what almost EVERY trucking company wants. Find out what your state law is.

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).
The act of purchasers and sellers transacting business while keeping all transactions in a single state, without crossing state lines to do so.
John K.; you can obtain a Wisconsin CDL if you are 18, 19, or 20 years old for intrastate commercial driving. You'll still have to get a federal medical card, but I will be marked "No CMV operation in interstate commerce". Check page 9 of the Wisconsin CDL Manual to see what I am talking about.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
A CMV is a vehicle that is used as part of a business, is involved in interstate commerce, and may fit any of these descriptions:
Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).
Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).
The act of purchasers and sellers transacting business while keeping all transactions in a single state, without crossing state lines to do so.
The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.
John K- my mistake. I did not know about Intrastate Class A for age 18-20.
The act of purchasers and sellers transacting business while keeping all transactions in a single state, without crossing state lines to do so.
There is currently a Highway Bill in the House, with an amendment for Interstate Class A reducing the age to 19 1/2.
Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).
Thanks for everyone's input. To clear things up, I am applying for a Class A CDL permit to attend school with. I understand that it will be restricted to intrastate only.
My main concern is, if I check NO, what happens? Is this a disqualifying question, or simply something that adds a restriction or makes DOT look at the application to see why I checked no? I can't seem to find a clear answer on this anywhere.

Well, I don't see that you have any choice really. If the law says "at least 21" and you are under 21, then you MUST answer no to that question truthfully. Otherwise it will very likely have serious legal repercussions for you. If they find out you checked "yes" while you are under 21, then you just lied on your CDL and you will most likely get your CDL revoked, and possibly face fines and/or jail time. I do not know the exact repercussions you might face, but I know it won't be good. Do NOT lie to the government on something like this, it will bite you in the ass later.

Dave and Michael answered this for you above. You'll be able to get a restricted CDL that will only allow you to drive intrastate until you turn 21.

Hello all,
I am applying for a class A CDL permit in Wisconsin. I have printed form MV3001 (DL Application), and question 7 asks "Do you meet all the driver qualifications as required by 49 CFR 391 to operate a commercial motor vehicle?" I looked up the CFR, and 391.11b1 states "(1) Is at least 21 years old;"
The way I understand the question, I would check no.
Are there any consequences to checking no? What happens if I do that? I just don't want to fill it out wrong, and get disqualified or something like that.
Thank you in advance for any help, it is greatly appreciated.
