Insurance is probably the biggest factor... if you've had your CDL for a while then you already have the experience required to not make the insurance go up further for the smaller carriers/local jobs the really large carriers can accept more risk with the insurance company....

It's insurance. For basically the same reason that your insanely high auto insurance premiums will stop down once you reach 25 - 26 years old.
