Ahhh, Charles thanks, are you doing private schooling or company sponsored?

Planning on going sponsored through Knight if all goes as planned. Sent them an application and they replied back to give them a call as soon as I have my permit. Hopefully will have that wrapped up here in the next couple of weeks. Getting very anxious.

That good news Charles. Congratulations!!!! I'm still up in the air with going to Knight or paying for school and going to Schneider where I can get a flatbed gig right after completing the course. Flatbed is what I really want. Just paying up front is the hard part.

Yeah I totally understand the concern about having to pay to go to school. Even if you get loans, you still have that extra thing hanging over your head and knowing that is one more expense your going to have to deal with after you get done with training and your on the road. One of the things I like about Knight is they will pay you from the time they actually take you into the class, not just on the road. Personally I can't afford to just take time off and go to school and not get paid and trying to juggle a regular job and school would be rather difficult. So we'll see how it goes.

Going with Knight DOES have its advantages. Not to mention I have less than stellar credit so a loan would have to be secured. Not really wanting to do that even though I'm confident that I'll pass everything. I would rather not have that worry in my mind while at school. So after much thought, I think I'll be attending Knights program. I'm sure I'll be happy with the decision. Like Brett said, trucking is one of those great jobs where you can pretty much move around and work where you want. So if I wanna drive flatbed still after the first year, then that will be an easy transition. So when do you think you'll be starting with them? I'm guessing I can be ready in about 3-4 weeks myself. I heard the Urgent Care up here will do the DOT physical. I might try to get that done today. I have to drive to Prescott for the written test, which sucks, because that's an hour away. That's the closest testing center for me. I don't have another day off until Thursday so that's the soonest I can go do that. Once I get the permit I need to call Knight for a start date and then I can give notice at work. Man are they gonna be ****ed. I really like my current bosses and hate to do this to them but I have to do whats best for me and my family. I know they'll understand. They just will not be happy about it. We'll have to get together when I'm down there. If you start before me then you can tell me what to expect.

Since when did they not require you to secure a load in a dry van...or a reefer ??? We pulled reefer for awhile ( I HATED it....happy wife=happy lifesmile.gif ..we changed to flatbed). But with the reefer, we still had to carry load locks, and we carried the butterfly type too. I'd think the same would be true for dry can.

Dry Van:

A trailer or truck that that requires no special attention, such as refrigeration, that hauls regular palletted, boxed, or floor-loaded freight. The most common type of trailer in trucking.

Reefer:

A refrigerated trailer.

I think I would prefer a load bar to tarps and chains ...
