Somehow Forbes magazine disagrees with you.
Well someone else added what the effects were.
Forbes on Seattle's $15 minimum wage
Pay special attention to housing. I know as truckers, it doesn't effect us as much as it does in other jobs, but it should tell you that, just because you raise the minimum wage, it does not mean you get an increase in your standard of living.
Dave
However, if someone "flips burgers", there can be any number of reasons. Let's just peruse a hypothetical example. "Tim" flips burgers. But see, Tim grew up in a bad side of Chicago (Hegwich, neighborhood maybe). Dad was an alcoholic and mom ran away. Tim had to quit high school, after getting into gangs. But, Tim found some inspiration and now got a job at McDonalds. He has no diploma, no GED, and no way to get those. He flips a mean burger, and works all the hours he can get. If he works 39.5 hours (they won't give him the last half hour to avoid full time benefits) he cannot even afford a 1 bedroom apartment with utilities. Let alone ANYTHING else.
This is the reason I am completely against this. So Tim destroyed his life and now it's someone else's fault he can't afford to live. How about this scenario. Tim, who only works part time at Mcds because they don't allow anyone full time unless they are management, decides to get off his a$$ and go get his ged. They have testing every week at your local library. After Tim gets his ged he can now apply for a new job. Now that Tim got a new job and works 40 hours a week things are getting better. Not great but better, he knows if he buckles down and works hard he will make more so that's what he does. 10 years later, Tim is a foreman at his company, owns a house, and is continuing to better himself. Stop giving people handouts.
Thanks for jumping in there without understanding the situation. I am glad that you are able to see that far down from your high and mighty perch. Or, does reading comprehension not come easy for you?
Did you ever see the McDonalds video where they try to justify their low pay? You know what they say to do? Have two full time jobs. When are we human beings and not human doings?
You think that a Walton (WalMart heir) earned their money? They were BORN.
Lol, yep. You are completely right. Nobody in the Walton family worked for the money. It was the genie of the lamp. Damn, now if only we could find that lamp so that you can be rich. I mean why should you have to work for it! Lol... The real problem is your jealousy of the rich. Like I said, Anybody can be rich! Just work for it. I'll have a nice chunk to hand down to my son, who will in turn, add to it and hand down to his. And so on and so on. This is how empires are born. Nobody just wakes up one day from nothing to the top 1%. It took generations to get there.
<Wow!!!! We have a winner! The BIGGEST PILE OF EXCREMENT EVER POSTED! I am pretty sure MOST of the big money in the USA/World today is inherited. How many hours do Walton heirs work?
And how do you think there was money to inherit? Oh that's right, somebody in that family tree busted their a$$ to get it. Why are we a country of entitlement? Why does everyone think they deserve more for doing as little as possible? If we are going by the idea that just because you did as little as possible to help someone who started something make more money then the owner of this site owes me. Where's my money Brett? You make $ because of clicks that we make. The more of us that visit, the more you make. Now I know, I didn't make this site. I didn't design this site. I didn't get any of the advertiser's. All I did was post something, but that's all I need to do to get some money. RightRight? While yoy're at it, I need a raise as well.
So... let's review...
1. You think that the heirs of Sam Walton are deserving of BILLIONS of dollars because Sam Walton made LOTS of money.
2. You think I stated somewhere that, "everyone think they deserve more for doing as little as possible". I do not recall EVER once saying any such thing.
3. THEN, you state: How have you made things better for your company that they should give you more? Have you upped revenue? No. Have you brought in new business? No. Have you cut loss? No. Did you invent something? No. What have you done? That's right, you did the job that takes almost no skill at all. A job that you can be replaced by anyone off the street, no education needed. Yep, you deserve so much more.
There is SO much wrong with this statement. I became the best burger flipper they have. I can cook better than anyone else there. I up revenue by a.) not screwing up orders b.) not forcing HR to train more people and hire more people. c.) by having less waste and more quality products.
I did all my training and did the best I could. I bring in new business by always doing orders correctly and always making quality products. Takes no skill? Really? So, I wonder why McDonalds has to spend millions on training every year.
Ever see what FDR said about the minimum wage?
“No business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country”
- Franklin Delano Roosevelt
“The test of our progress is not whether we add to the abundance of those who have much. It is whether we provide enough to those who have little.”
- Franklin Delano Roosevelt
A Message from FDR about the Living Wage
After many requests on my part the Congress passed a Fair Labor Standards Act, what we call the Wages and Hours Bill. That Act –applying to products in interstate commerce — ends child labor, sets a floor below wages and a ceiling over hours of labor.
Except perhaps for the Social Security Act, it is the most far-reaching, the most far-sighted program for the benefit of workers ever adopted here or in any other country. Without question it starts us toward a better standard of living and increases purchasing power to buy the products of farm and factory.
Do not let any calamity-howling executive with an income of $1,000.00 a day, who has been turning his employees over to the Government relief rolls in order to preserve his company’s undistributed reserves, tell you — using his stockholders’ money to pay the postage for his personal opinions — tell you that a wage of $11.00 a week is going to have a disastrous effect on all American industry. Fortunately for business as a whole, and therefore for the Nation, that type of executive is a rarity with whom most business executives most heartily disagree.
Franklin Roosevelt’s Fireside Chat, June 24, 1938
Just look things up. Also, explain to me how you can justify someone having BILLIONS while some are homeless. Another question, what percentage of unemployed people are just wanting to live off welfare?
This link might shock you. What is the answer to this one?
Welfare people? Most already have jobs.
Please, discuss away...

Yes the Waltons deserve to make billions. After all, it is THEIR company. Not yours! As for all the lazy people making minimum wages, guess what, you can survive on minimum wage. Can you live where you want? Nope. Can you have cable, Internet, a car, cell phone, eat steak, drink beer, go out, have a big screen TV, or any of the many other things people think are a rightright. NO!!! But do all of these people have these things, bet your a$$ they do. Not only do they have all of this, they think they deserve it all. Guess what, life is hard! Stop crying and work harder.
My first experience with a union was when I was a kid. My dad belonged to the Teamsters and one year they voted the union out. Their pay froze for like 12 years. Now I know you all are thinking that is bad but here is the thing, all the other bed bugging companies had to go back to work after the strike for $4 per hour less than they were making before the strike. My dad was making the same money.
My second experience was when I worked for the phone company. Yeah the benefits were great but I was making the same money installing and upgrading the latest and greatest hardware and software while someone that could barely install an analog phone would get paid the same as I did.
Unions do not foster an environment that encourages you to better yourself. There is absolutely no incentive for you to be the best that you can be at your job.
I also don't agree with their politics. Luckily I was in a right to work state and did not have to pay the dues.
Unions are the reason for the work conditions that we have today. In their time they were needed. Today they are not need as much because of the laws on the books. Unions are also the reason that many jobs have been driven overseas. I don't begrudge companies for making money, if you want to make that kind of money you need to stick your neck out like they have.
Personally I have no use for a union.
This is the shortest comment I have made on this site to date: I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING YOU JUST SAID.
That is true. Life is hard, and it sucks at times. Here's the deal.
Importing illegal aliens to do the work, is one reason why wages are down. If Americans are competing with OTHER Americans, instead of everyone in the World, then maybe wages will go up.
It's not about anti-immigrant, it's about we are in a recession, and maybe the government should be creating policies.
1) Are these new 14 hour (30 minute break), 34 hour reset policies making life easier and improving job performance or hindering job performance?
2) Is shutting down coal mines creating or costing jobs?
3) Is preventing pipelines in this country creating jobs in the solar panel and wind turbine industry, or costing construction jobs?
Most of these jobs described above, are more than the minimum wage.

Sorry folks, I just realized that I might be contradicting some of my other posts.
KNOW YE ONE AND ALL, UNIONS, IN MY OPINION, BAD BAD NOT GOOD GOOD.
You will find other posts of mine where I state,
"IF ALL US TRUCKERS COULD JUST SET ASIDE OUR PETTY DIFFERENCES AND ACT AS ONE BODY, WE COULD RULE THE WORLD" I did not mean this as support for any union, just pointing out the POWER we could have if we wanted. We are the true "SLEEPING GIANT" and someday we will awaken and roar. I just hope it happens before the unions or government find me and silence me. Keep on Keeping on Brother Truckers,
I'm Jerry Escondido and I approved this propaganda.
Hi Jerry ... you are contradicting yourself by saying that unions are "BAD BAD NOT GOOD GOOD" then a sentence away you state that ""IF ALL US TRUCKERS COULD JUST SET ASIDE OUR PETTY DIFFERENCES AND ACT AS ONE BODY, WE COULD RULE THE WORLD" I did not mean this as support for any union,"
Acting as one body is a union. That's the whole purpose of them. Without uniting truckers will keep getting taken advantage of.
