You must have had the worse experience with game meat!

Oh man did I ever! I tried it and discovered it tasted terrible. My experience ended right there.

Bear meat was horrendous!!

That's interesting. I've always heard about people eating bear meat but I don't think I've ever really heard an opinion on it. I know I watch some of those Alaskan shows and they all eat bear meat, but nobody ever says if it's good or not. They just eat it.

There's a chain of stores in the 'burbs' around here called Cabela's that sells what I would consider uncommon or "exotic" meats. I should go in there one day and try everything I can find. Maybe I'm missing out. Maybe squirrel tail and ox tongue and turtle feet are delicious! LoL! Actually I have no idea what meats they have, but they're not things you'll find in most delis.

By the way, my dog (a German Shepherd) is over there right now chewing away like a madman at his rawhide. He said to tell you not to worry about what "old soft jaws" says because "he doesn't enjoy gnawing on a good hard, stringy, chewy, lean piece of meat like dogs, wolves, and Canadians do." He also said he thinks deer meat is so tender it doesn't even need to be cooked. So you have an ally.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Brett you're funny calling deer meat nasty lol. You must not have had it prepared very well. It is lean meat, yes, which means you have to cook it differently than you would a fatty beef roast for the best result. You should cook venison with fat added (such as cooking a steak in a skillet with butter) so it doesn't dry out, but it is very very tasty if prepared well. BTW- the most expensive meal I ever ate out at a very fancy five star restaurant once, which cost me about $100 per plate, was a meal featuring braised venison tenderloin as the main course. And no I do not make a habit of eating at places like that, it was a special occasion, and the food (as well as the service) was AMAZING. Some of the best food I've eaten. I've had deer other times as well, that was just the most expensive meal I've bought and it was deer so it was relevant lol.

I would say that, as with most foods, if you don't like it, you probably haven't tried it prepared the right way. Of course some people are just very picky eaters. That would certainly not be me, I was raised not to be picky and to eat whatever we had on the table no matter what it is (as a child I didn't have a say in what's for dinner), and my parents exposed me to a large variety of different foods. I'm definitely a foodie now and I love eating many different cuisines from all over the world, and I believe I largely have my parents to thank for that.

Heck yeah! I love all those. I'm also a huge fan of really spicy food so I gotta say good Indian food is one of my all-time faves, I eat it as often as possible. <3

Deer meat is only edible if it is from a young buck or doe. The older they get the tougher their meat. Brett might have had an older specimen, while the others that are raving about it, most likely ate Bambi.

*sigh* my father never killed "Bambi". :(

I'll just stick with the simple fact that I'm a carnivore lol. As far as my steaks go, knock the hooves off, give it some grill marks and put it on my plate.

I've cooked a lot of deer meat, and if you spend the time butchering it correctly and removing that silver fatty material (which is tough to do sometimes) you can produce some really great tasting meat. It cooks completely different from beef because the meat fibers are really short and there is little to no fat, but when prepared and cooked right it is really delicious. I had the privilege of having hunting rights on a large south Texas Ranch for years, and I killed some very large deer down there - the meat was always wonderful. I have a sister who shares Brett's opinion, so I served her some deer meat under the guise of beef, and she loved it! She kept wanting to know my recipe - when I confessed to her what I had done to her she was shocked!

Now as a disclaimer I will confess that some high quality beef is by far my favorite choice of meat - that stuff is hard to beat!
