It has been brought to my attention by a friend of mine who use to drive for Central Refrigeration that Central has been bought out by Swift. Its peculiar given the fact that Swift is involved in a huge class action lawsuit involving them and their drivers. Any thoughts on this?

Nope. No thoughts at all. Companies by each other out all the time. In the past few years ,according to the story Swift has bought out 8 other companies and nothing has happened to the drivers. This is a non issue and really should not be brought up as a topic cause it absolutely has nothing to due with the drivers of any company at all.

Now what should be looked at is the extra freight that Swift is going to be hauling. They are now the 2nd largest refer based carrier in the nation which means more freight and more miles. This s not corporate America where one company buys out another and they fire everyone. Not going to happen.

Since swift is on my radar, I havent heard of a class action lawsuit. If someone has more info on this I would like to hear about it. Why is there a lawsuit? and if its class action involving their drivers, Why are they constantly hiring? Wouldn't people want to stay away from this?

Guys, we keep trying to calm your anxieties over this stuff and it starts to feel like we're beating our heads against the wall! Guyjax said it all when he called it a non-issue. There's not hardly a trucking company around that isn't involved in some kind of a lawsuit because the lawyers think they've found a cash cow. As far as the purchase of Central by Swift it's about like me and you transferring 500 dollars from our right hip pocket to the left pocket so the government will let us depreciate the value of the pair of Levis that we're carrying the money in.

This stuff goes on all the time, and it has absolutely NO effect on the drivers.

Yes it is true. We had the president of Swift message all drivers on our qualcomms.

However, business will not change. Pay will not change. Nothing will change. This is a non-issue and not worth even remembering.

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

Amen to everything Guyjax, Old School, and Daniel said - nothing to be concerned about with either the buyout or the lawsuits. Routine, everyday stuff in the trucking industry.

Ok perfect, I truly appreciate all the info, again this is different then my reality. Lets say I was working for Target and we heard class action lawsuit we would all start looking for new jobs immediately because we knew what was coming next.

Kevin, there's literally a class action lawsuit on every trucking company. Don't worry about their debt or their lawsuits. Just be a safe driver and do your job. As a driver you have enough to worry about, and worrying about their lawsuit isn't going to help you. They have hundreds of lawyers working on it for you.
