As I lay here in bed half dead, right arm aching from all this shifting, low back hurting from all this sitting and shoulders stiff from all this trucking I figured id do an update. Ive been running HARD for 6 weeks and counting. I asked for more and im getting more than I bargained for! But hey one cant complain when the pay checks hit the bank on Fridays:) Well except today! I lost track of my days, forgot it was Monday and didnt turn in some trips so when I checked my bank I was more than depressed but hey next weeks gonna be great:) Not that I can spend my money my dang bank card expired and the bank didnt auto mail out a new one so now wI gotta wait 2 weeks for another and try to get a load home to get it. But it also happens to coinside with my vacation to Louisiana! shocked.png Cant seem to win. Thank goodness for advances in case I get in a pinch. Me and my new truck are getting on good. Ive finally mastered the art of not falling out the truck while parkingsmile.gif , adapted the attitude that who the hell needs to see over the dashboard anywaysrofl-3.gif and am out there trucking it up like good ol boyssmile.gif Well wirh WAY more style and grace lol Ive been approached by a number of folks in my company to be a trainer but Im just not sure yet. Im an excellent driver I run hard can out plan the best of em but I just dont wanna short change anyone. I know id be s great teacher but I just dont know.......Guess we shall see how it goes the next few months. Cant believe this time last year I was gearing up for school and now im like an old pro lol. Amazing how time flies when your having fun:) I was literally stalked yesturday by a driver from I80 to I69 he actually exited off where I was fueling just to give me his phone number! Ahhhh the life of a woman trucker. Off subject: Brett I want to get a magnet bumper sticker made in the shape of a red gator head with my name ontop and truckingtruth.com on the bottom for my doors. Maybe ya can find a sight or start one. Im sure we would all like one. Special K want the Kellogs box:) lol

Glad to hear all is well and your running hard. I've actually been thinking refently about an expired debit card. Mine is up next march. Who knows when i'll actually be home to get it... I'm going to have to stock up some cash leading up to that point. Be safe out there.

Redgator, If you go to Zazzle.com, they can custom make just about anything you can think of. You upload the artwork, and they'll make you your bumper sticker or pillow or skateboard or,or,or....! dancing-banana.gif

Ya know, I've been thinking about getting magnets and T-shirts and hats and all that forever but haven't gotten around to making it happen. I really need to! wtf-2.gif

And as far as you being a trainer, if you want to do it, then give it a shot. You're certainly not going to short change anyone. They really don't need to learn how to be an incredible driver. They need a little help improving their basic driving skills, learn how to manage life on the road, and learn how your company does things (Qualcomm, paperwork, fueling, etc). You're absolutely capable of teaching all of that to new drivers. No question about it.

In fact, I'll say this. If I had the choice of sending someone out with a 30 year veteran who was a complete jerk and didn't even like training people, or sending them out with you, I'd choose you in a heartbeat. One good year of OTR experience and a positive, friendly, and patient disposition makes for a great trainer in my book. So don't worry about your ability to train someone. You're plenty capable.

The only question you have to ask yourself is whether or not you want to do it. That's totally up to you.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

RedGator, are you KIDDING??? You would be a FANTASTIC trainer...and lord knows, we need more ladies training so we can get more ladies on the road...don't doubt yourself one minute longer...If you're interested, I say GO FOR IT!!

Training might be something I would be interested in down the road. I think just how much I would want to do it will be determined by how training with a mentor myself goes. If it is not so bad living in such close proximity to another in a truck, I would definitely consider it at some point.

@Brett get on that bumper sticker thing:) Thanks for the compliment definately means alot. Between what you, Guy and everyone else says I decided that yes it would be something id like to do. Talked to my company today and I have trainer training on the 30th:) We really have a shortage of female trainers (We only have one) and after helping drivers old and new over the phone I think Id be good at it. After all I trained in all my other jobs why not this one? @Tim its more than getting along with someone in a truck. Its hard sharing your space but also to facilitate a comfortable environment for learning. Really wanting to help. Too many trainers out here are in it for the money. The moneys is nice but NOT at all a motivation for me.

I fully understand what you are saying. I am not even going into trucking for the money, although of course I want to make a living at it. I want to do it because it is what I have wanted to do for many years. I also have enjoyed training folks in the past while in the Air Force and other jobs. It is exactly the helping aspect that makes it attractive. It gives one a great feeling to help others succeed. Like I said, the only thing that would give me pause is just being in such close proximity to another person for 24/7.
