State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

No need to outlaw night time driving, but if we drivers recognize our limitations and act accordingly, this stuff doesn't happen. Then again, thank God this happens much less than it used to.
I choose to get up early and drive 2-4am to start my day. I see lots of wrecks during those dark hours, but I don't think it is because it's night time, I think it's because either the drivers aren't paying attention, haven't gotten enough rest or are trying to stretch a few extra miles in before stopping.

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Ha, good luck passing that legislation. No more team driving or expedited loads. Everyone from the trucking companies to the shippers and receivers would have an absolute fit.
Glad no one was hurt in the wreck, it could have been a lot worse. He probably saw the lights but did not move into the left lane or slow down, assuming that the accident was on the shoulder. Sounds like he hit the fire truck in the right lane. States have laws like that for a reason, slowing down significantly or moving over probably would have prevented this wreck.
The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

Sounds about right to me. Drivers now a days are just getting out here and forget to use commons sense anymore glad no one was seriously hurt in this.

I passed this wreck this morning in VA on I-85 just north of XIT 42. The only thing I can figure is that at 1:30 AM this guy was dead asleep not to see the emergency lights of police and fire vehicles. He hit the fire truck first and split it in half, then went on to hit the police car, ripped through 200 feet of guardrail, then finally flipped over on its left side. Luckily, according to the news, no one died. This is why I hate driving at night because I'm not a night person and you let me get out in the middle of nowhere where it's completely dark and boom, boom, out go the lights! Guess it's a sign of getting old...LOL.
