Requirement is 1 year with a USA drivers license before you can get a CDL license. So at 1 year and 1 day you could start the CDL schooling/ or take the CDL learners permit test. The High Road Training, on this website is superb.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Most important thing is ti have right to work in USA. So, Green card is the only way for foreigners. How to get one - either lottery (for this year ended already - next year check here and only here - dvlottery.state.gov), either thru marriage. I would love to drive in nord Europe, I have friend from Bulgaria, he drives local in Ă…lesund :)

I would also like to say that once you have your green card and your regular USA driver's license, even though you can't drive the large class A or B trucks yet, you could still get a job for your first year driving a non-CDL box truck (delivery van), so you could at least be driving our roads every day for your job. Then after 1 year, you can go to CDL school and get your Class A license, and start driving the big trucks. :)

You can get CDL A right after you come in USA with Green Card. First, of course, you get regular driver licence, then you go to school for CDL, after you pass the tests you get CDL A. I do not know if all of the states are like that, but at least in Illinois and Florida is. And what is the difference between US and Europe roads??? There is very little time, one week drive, to get used to the truck stops, the rule for right of the right standing, and some other specific to USA rules.
