Your not really over weight... Schneider does not have a cdl training program. They used to a long time ago. You need to have your cdl on hand first. No mega carrier will allow you to use your own medical DOT , at least I know Schneider will not. You will have to get it done your first day there, and take an atlas pre work agility test. It is easy stuff, but they want your heart rate below 90% of your max for your age. Your blood pressure can't be high they check that too. If you need a sleep apnea test, they will help provide that I believe. I would suggest you getting your blood pressure in check first either way. Any questions let me know. I just went through Schneider orientation and am on a rehire there for the end of this week. Good luck!
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
A physical disorder in which you have pauses in your breathing, or take shallow breaths, during sleep. These pauses can last anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. Normal breathing will usually resume, sometimes with a loud choking sound or snort.
In obstructive sleep apnea, your airways become blocked or collapse during sleep, causing the pauses and shallow breathing.
It is a chronic condition that will require ongoing management. It affects about 18 million people in the U.S.
Welcome!

If during your DOT physical they believe that due to your BMI you may have sleep apnea , you will be required to take a sleep study. As long as your BP is under 140/90, you will be ok for passing the physical.

Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.
We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.
The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.
During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.

A Company-Sponsored Training Program is a school that is owned and operated by a trucking company.
The schooling often requires little or no money up front. Instead of paying up-front tuition you will sign an agreement to work for the company for a specified amount of time after graduation, usually around a year, at a slightly lower rate of pay in order to pay for the training.
If you choose to quit working for the company before your year is up, they will normally require you to pay back a prorated amount of money for the schooling. The amount you pay back will be comparable to what you would have paid if you went to an independently owned school.
Company-sponsored training can be an excellent way to get your career underway if you can't afford the tuition up front for private schooling.

I too have had high blood pressure. Try looking in the yellowpages for nurse practitioners in your area. They tend to be way cheaper then a dr at least the one i use is. Also there are several different blood pressure meds that may be filled for free or very little cost. Just be sure to let them no you dont have insureance.
You can indeed get a DOT physical if you're unsure of your ability to pass it and many places offer them for under $100 but you will almost certainly have to take another one when a company hires you.
We have a ton of information on the DOT Physical in our wiki:

Hello all
I am 99% sure that I want to drive for Schneider but I don't have a CDL. Do they provide cdl training and everything? Also before i commit to anything I'm slightly concerned about passing a DOT physical. My blood pressure from checking it myself on those store and pharmacy machines say i'm in the "pre hypertension" zone. I'm 37 and not overweight looks wise but i have high BMI it says i'm overweight. I'm 6'3 about 227 pounds.
Then i think i may have sleep apnea not sure. I don't have medical insurance and haven't been to a doctor in years. How would they know if i have sleep apnea during the dot test?
Lastly can i go take a dot physical ahead of time at any location or does it have to be done through schneider?
thanks
