At some point (probably tomorrow), I'm going to call Beelman to get the low down on the specifics (CPM, etc.). She mentioned Schneider. But, big companies like them, and Swift, Werner, etc. I highly doubt have terminals in this area, and where I live currently, I couldn't park a tractor (it's a trailer park with really strict rules, but I'll probably move anyway).
Residing close to your home terminal is really not an issue or should it limit your choices for employers, unless you want local. Once you are solo status your company will route you close to home so that you can park your truck and take your home time. My suggestion is to scope out local areas that can accept a tractor and trailer for several days of overnight parking. Possible examples are truckstops, industrial parks, shopping center parking lots and of course my fallback for truck parking, Walmart.
Terminal:
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
CPM:
Cents Per Mile
Drivers are often paid by the mile and it's given in cents per mile, or cpm.
