I would hope that you would only be sharing with one other person. Any more than that means you would be sharing beds as well. As for me, that ain't happening. And I spent 10 years in the military sharing showers sleeping in barracks. I know with Melton they will allow you a private room if you pay the difference, and Brian said Werner allows it also. Best bet would be to ask the recruiter. I had a shared room during orientation and it wasn't all that bad. Most of the time you're to busy going over your paperwork and stuff to worry about the other guy.

See when you are in the military you and the rest of the guys went through alot to get there and share a common goal. Trucking people come and go like a revolving door at orientations. You could be sharing a room with somebody and the next day they are gone. I unfortunately went out to CR England school about 10+ years ago and lasted 2 days before i left and went home. The whole thing was giving me a bad vibe and talking to veteran drivers so before i signed on that dotted line on the 3rd day locking me i bolted. They tried to put me in a room with 2 other guys. A giant room with 2 beds and a fold out couch.

Thank god i didn't get locked in with them after reading all the horror stories with that company. And recently reading on this forum they are the most open to hiring felons. A guy that was charged with looking at child porn was asking who hires felons. Sorry but i have no interest in sharing rooms with trash like that.

I think Shneider the company i'm looking at doesn't hire felons.

I totally agree with you. And...."Trash" is a nice word, for a felon convicted of child pornography.

Call your recruiter and see what the policy is for having a private hotel room while attending school.

.

I talked to a Schneider recruiter, and listed my felonies, all over 10 years old, and he said that although they have to be "approved," none of them would prevent them offering me a pre-hire. So yes, Schneider accepts felons.

felony 1: smashing mailboxes, 1992. (no explanation needed ) felony 2&3: illegal use of a financial transaction device & uttering and publishing (2001). I wrote a check for $145 worth of pizza, that bounced, and I destroyed a credit card machine (very long story) felony 4: failure to pay my child support through FOC. ( i paid my ex wife, directly, and we both kept receipts, but the judge hated me, because my dad flunked him in Economics, way back when. so he said that it didn't matter that i paid, i didnt pay through FOC, so i still RE-owed all the money i previously paid also made the mistake of getting very verbally obstinate over the situation.) (2002)

but anyway, I am not sure that it would bother me, to share a room with other people, i have had enough life experiences, that i have become pretty flexible. I did a year at a Teen Challenge, where I shared a room with 15 other former drug addicts, from all walks of life.

Oh, and vamp. I assume that you are referring to sharing a room with males. I doubt that would be acceptable to the school, too. They would put you with other females.

Pre-hire:

What Exactly Is A Pre-Hire Letter?

Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.

We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.

A Pre-Hire Letter Is Not A Guarantee Of Employment

The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.

During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.

No, I meant *anyone*. A stranger is a stranger. I don't know who this person is, where they come from, etc. Just like he said, I wouldn't be able to sleep soundly not knowing who is sleeping next to me, and I wouldn't trust to have my belongings in the same room as a stranger. Someone comes to orientation and is gone the next day, coming to get their things in the room while you're out, next thing you know you come back to your room with stuff missing. I actually find it strange that some companies even think it's ok to do this. My privacy is very important to me, hence one of the reasons why going into the trucking world, so I don't have to deal with too many nosy, annoying or obnoxious co-workers! lolll :oP

PS....I'd like to add that even tho I might come off as unfriendly.....this has nothing to do with it. I am very friendly, I smile a lot, I'm open minded and I am a generous, good hearted person. However, my safety is important, and trusting of others come with time, I don't give it freely, with good reason. I have enough life experience to know better than to just blindly trust strangers. Heck, I often can't even trust people that are closer to me.

As far as felons.....I am also aware that a LOT of people can have felonies attached to them for some silly stuff, sometimes from moons ago when they were young. It sucks, everyone makes mistakes. Doesn't make someone a bad person. But there are some exceptions to that rule....if one has been convicted of child abuse, child pornography, rape, etc. I want to be NOWHERE near that kind of individual. And no, I'm not talking about the guy who was 20 years old and got sued by his 17 years old girlfriend's parents!

Different folks have different ways, and I don't mean that offensively at all. Though I am private with details of my life, I've never had a problem crashing at somebodies house I just met, though those days are long behind me.

I was at Prime Orientation June 2015... cost for room by myself- $50 approx... I chose to go with roommate- he was there waiting on a Trainer for 2nd phase, and had his CDL license. He was in room 1 night, then left next day, Rest of week I was by myself. Worked out fine.

Everybody's busy- there's plenty to do. If you have free time- study for Pretrip- get it memorized!

I mean this with the utmost respect, but I have to laugh at your post... I spent 2 years sleeping in the same room, working the same work area, eating and grocery shopping with the same people for 10 months at a time. year one my AmeriCorps NCCC team had 7 males and 3 females, females in 1 room males in the other in terms of sleeping but everything else was done together, year 2 we had 7 people total, 3 men 4 girls (we had 2 more men but they got sent home for dicsp reasons).

I'm sure you can handle a few weeks in a hotel room with them. Don't bring anything super valuable with you, if there's something you need to bring for whatever reason take it with you to training, don't leave it alone and unsecured if you are really that worried.

If I can do it for 2 10 month terms in a row where I'm with the same people 24/7 (except sleeping in diff rooms by gender) I think you can do it for a few weeks.

Yeah I hear yah, not easy to find another like me on the road. LOL jk

I would also prefer to stay in a room by myself. Just so my stuff doesn't walk in the middle of the night. I am the middle of my class A training now. They have me mixed in with CR England and Drivers solution students. I have seen in 4 weeks almost every scary sight sit down in that class room. Some people can barley spell their names while others look like they are on high doses of Meds. Last thing I wanna do is go to sleep in the same room with those folks. When I do my time with my trainer I plan on letting him know I am not a liar or a thief. And I sure as hell hope he or she isn't. Or they will find him/her duct tapped to a light pole out in the middle of the desert.
