Finished school and took my CDL test and passed. Had a few hiccups, but overcame them nicely. Now I'm off to Birmingham AL to start orientation on the 7th with Transport America.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

I have not heard of Transport America, I am interested in reading your diary with them.

It was tough finding anything about them but I take that as a good sign. Best I can tell they haul a lot of farming stuff. Solo drivers don't go past west Texas however teams run all 48. They said I will get a minimum of 2500 miles for the first year and 0.36 per mile to start (I made sure to get it in writing)
